"Didn't you have something to tell me?" Seven of Nine inquired, taking a
step closer.
The Doctor stared at her. This was it. This was the time to tell her. Or was it? Should he wait? Maybe now wasn't the time. He hadn't practiced a lot. Maybe he needed more practice. Maybe he should wait.
"Doctor?"
"I-I-I just wanted-" Again he hesitated. Why was it so hard to state his feelings? After all, as Ensign Paris had said, stranger things had happened. "I just wanted to say-" He swallowed, even though it didn't really do anything. He was a hologram. Holograms don't need to swallow. He took a deep breath, for basically no reason- holograms don't need to breath either- and said, "Seven, I've grown very.fond of you."
Seven was puzzled. "Of course. We are friends. I am fond of you also."
The Doctor looked at her. Should he stop now? He might loose everything if he continued. But, looking into her eyes, the Doctor knew he couldn't hold it in any longer. He would go crazy!
"More than friends, Seven."
"Elaborate." She demanded.
"I'm beginning to have a romantic interest in you Seven." No matter how gentle he tried to say it, the words sounded blunt.
Seven of Nine raised her eyebrows in shock. This was the least thing she expected!
"What has spurred this interest?" She asked.
"The last few days have been.remarkable." He spoke slowly, carefully forming his words. "You are a wonderful, charming, clever, smart woman, Seven, and- and I'm afraid I've fallen in love with you."
He watched as her eyes got wider. She was probably horrified. He had been her mentor, her teacher. Teachers don't fall in love with their pupils. He had made a huge mistake. The Doctor looked up at her. "I'm sorry. I should have stayed more in check with my emotions. If you want I can-"
Seven broke off his apology. "You are acceptable."
The Doctor choked on his words. "W-what?"
"You are an acceptable mate." Seven stood up straighter. "I will date you." She said with smile.
"Seven, that's-that's- Are you sure?"
"Do you not want to?" She took another step closer.
"No! No, it's not that! Of course I want to! But, a minute ago I was a just a good friend."
Seven suddenly looked awkward. "I believe I have developed the same feelings towards you. I.did not know how to express them." She took a deep breath. "I thought you thought of me as your student. I did not realize you felt the same way."
The Doctor stared at her, joy was evident in his eyes. "Seven, I'm- I'm so glad. I'm just so glad! I didn't know that-
Seven interrupted his babbling. "Would you care to join me for dinner?"
"I- Of course!" The Doctor bounced on his holo-toes, ignoring the fact that he didn't need to eat either.
"Good. Holodeck 1, 1900 hours. Be punctu- Don't be late." With another smile Seven of Nine turned and walked out of the holodeck leaving a very happy hologram behind.
The Doctor stood there for a few moments. Then he sighed. "Yes.stranger things have happened." He said softly.
