A/N: So, another one-shot, this time, featuring Theodore Nott and Daphne Greengrass. Now, it's a PostWar fic. Theo is an accomplished writer, Daphne works at the Ministry. Also, for some background, both Theo and Daphne were in the D.A. in their 7th year. I'm working on that fic now, so, yeah.
A Dark And Stormy Night
It was a dark and stormy night.
No, too cheesy, that would never work.
Phillip knew that something dark and dangerous was about to happen.
No, that wouldn't work either. Theo shook his head and rubbed his temples. The clock on the fireplace showed two in the morning. Theo sighed deeply and gave it another go.
Phillip looked out of his ebony window. It was dark and stormy.
Ridiculous. Theo was a writer, so why couldn't he write? What happened to him? He tried to involve a girl.
Phillip lay in bed next to his new girlfriend, Mary. She slept peacefully.
Theo groaned. This just wasn't going to work. Suddenly, he heard a noise behind him. He whipped his wand automatically.
"Relax, it's just me," came the voice of his wife.
Theo sighed in relief and placed his wand beside him.
"Will you stop scaring me in the middle of the night, Daph?" he asked her, his eyes twinkling.
Daphne entered the room from the hallway.
"You're the crime writer, Teddy-bear, you're the one who should be scaring me," she said, kissing him on the cheek. "Why are you working so late?"
Theo sighed.
"I'm trying to start this damn book, I just can't! Plus, I can't make Phillip work with this girl!"
"Or any girl…" Daphne muttered.
"What was that?" he asked, trying to concentrate on his writing.
"Theo, sweetie, I have something to tell you about your main character," Daphne said with a smile.
Theo turned to face her.
"What is it?"
"Honey, there's really no easy way to say it, but Phillip's gay," she said.
Theo looked at her for a few seconds, before he broke into laughter.
"What?" he asked, his stomach hurting from all the laughing.
"Theo, he always cares about fashion, he's flamboyant and he can't keep a girlfriend for longer than two days, yet, he's great with all the guys in the books."
Theo stopped laughing.
"But, but, he's an artist!" he said. "He's supposed to be flamboyant!"
Daphne looked at him critically, not buying it. After a few seconds, Theo slapped his forehead.
"Merlin, Daph, you're right!" he said. "How did this happen?"
Daphne sat in his lap, straddling him.
"I don't know, Dean was the one who told me and you know he has a pretty good gaydar."
Theo still looked incredulous. How did his main character end up being gay, despite Theo imagining him as a straight man? He was sure things like this didn't happen to other writers.
"Come on, darling, let's go to bed," said Daphne, kissing his neck and then getting up.
"But, I'm not tired! At all!" said Theo.
Daphne grinned.
"Neither am I. That's why we're going to bed, silly."
Theo smiled; this woman was going to be the death of him, but he would embrace it wholeheartedly.
