"And then you just tie the string into a knot, and you're finished!" The smiling face of the familiar man in the hat said. The girl sitting beside him held up the tiny pink dress that she had just made, with the help of the Hatter, of course.
"See? With just a string you cand make a whole world of exciting things!" The Hatter told her, but her face remained somber.
"But, Hatter, how am I supposed to make an entire new world when I can only sew dresses that a person the size of the Dorm Mouse could wear?" She asked, her ocean blue eyes staring up into his melon green orbs.
The Hatter laughed. Alice seemed even more forlorn by this, for she looked down, and began crying. No, the Hatter hadn't meant to hurt the small girl's feelings, nor should she had taken such a gesture to heart.
"Oh Alice," The Hatter sighed, brushing her mess of golden curls from her face with one of his gnarly hands, "You shouldn't let the world you live in now stop you from creating a much better one. Even if that much better one is full of people the size of a dorm mouse!"
Alice smiled softly, and handed the miniature ensemble to the Hatter. "Maybe the Dorm Mouse could use a new dress?" The Hatter smiled again, and asked:
"Alice, if you were to stay in Underland, would the reason be? I doubt it would be because of my obserce comments and questions."
She smiled, and looked down at her hands, folding them upon her lap. "I don't know, but I'm still trying to figure out how a raven is like a writing desk." At that, both of those mad creatures laughed.
"You are indeed a strange little boy." The Hatter told Alice, "Which reminds me, if you don't cut that hair soon, you're going to seem as mad as me!"
"I am a girl, you know." Alice giggled. The Hatter smiled.
He lifted Alice's chin to face him better, and he stared into her ocean eyes. Alice had never realized before how normal the Hatter looked when he wasn't talking like someone who belonged in an asylum.
Alice's thoughts were cut when the Hatter pressed his lips against hers. His lips were warm and soft, unlike anything Alice would of expected. She closed her eyes, and remained thoughtless for those few long seconds.
When the Hatter finally parted the kiss, Alice reopened her eyes. He lingered by her face, and whispered in her ear.
"I knew that already."
