When Everything is Lost
And oh, oh, how could you do it?
Oh I, I never saw it coming.
Oh, oh, I need the ending.
So why can't you stay
Just long enough to explain?-Paramore, When it Rains
"W-what?" Sue Clearwater sputters as she hears the news. "Seth and Leah are in some new pack? They're not coming back to La Push?" She felt like she was going to cry. If Leah thought she was losing everybody…well, she hadn't been in her mother's place.
Sam nods solemnly. "They're trying to stop us from attacking the Cullens."
Sue raises her eyebrows suspiciously. "Seth and Jacob I can understand, but Leah?"
"I don't know, Ms. Clearwater," Sam says. "We're going to try to get them to come back. Do you want us to give them a message from you?"
Tell them that I need them, Sue thinks. That they couldn't be serious, Leah, at least, knows what it's like to lose so many people she loves.
But Sue puts on a brave face and says, "Just tell them whatever will get them home. Bring up their father if you have to. But," Sue breaths out a long sigh. "Do not tell anyone about my reaction to this, or your pack will be short more than a few wolves. Got it?"
Sam just nods again, afraid that if he opens his mouth, he won't be able to keep from laughing.
Once Sam leaves, Sue lets herself cry for everything that has happened. For her husband, for her children, for herself.
(A/N: Well, now we know where Leah gets it from, right? Like Mother, like daughter.)
