Birdshine's Scars
November 2017
The moonlight so sparse under the great oak trees
began to reveal as the leaves moved with the breeze,
her lilac pelt shining brighter than stars;
and the peaceful quiet was hiding the story of her scars.
The one on her front paw was an innocent tale
of her young life in the nursery;
she hadn't expected the mighty gale
that threw her at the walls of the nursery.
Her tail, shredded and torn,
was a painful reminder
that her mentor could choose to be kinder
But instead treated her with scorn.
And still as a 'paw she was forced to endure
a fellow apprentice, born from the moor,
who gave her a scar on the shoulder to ensure
that he would have others' pain that day to savour.
Yet of course she forgot the pain
and traveled across the borders.
Under the stars, against the code's orders,
she fell in love with Blackrain.
Tragedy pierced the couple like thorns
and they realized what they had done.
But it was too late- they had a son
with fur that stuck out like a ram's horns.
His name soon became Ripplesage
But they didn't know that his heart was black with rage
That his birth and life was a lie
And he plotted for his very mother to die
So, by most and by far,
that was the one that hurt most of all,
for it was a dark heart's scar-
and indeed that heart's scar became her fall.
