Title: It's Complicated

Chapter 1: How it started

"May I present to you the victor of the 72nd annual Hunger Games, from District Two Cato Valentine!" This is usually how Cato and I spent our Saturday nights, watching previous Hunger Games to ensure I am prepared when I volunteer. These nights are cherished for we both know there is a slight possibility of me dying before my 19th birthday.

Let's stop and go to the beginning so I can tell you the back-story of the complicated relationship Cato and I have. In District Two at the age of nine parents sign a contract with the Academy where potential tributes and victors are produced. Some parents go the extra mile and enroll their children, some as young as three into pre-training. This is why I stood out the first day at the academy. When I was three my parents forced me into pre-training where I learned survival skills and how to use what later became my four top skills throwing knives, swords, the bow and arrow, and the whip.

My first day at the Academy was interesting to say the least. The trainers had us go around different stations so that they could rate our skills and rank us from top 8 year old to the worst all the while the rest of the trainees watching. And of course me being the smallest of the pack was stared and laughed at the most even before I had picked up a weapon. Needless to say once I began no one was laughing anymore, in fact most were shocked and stared at either myself or the trainers who also stood there and starred at me. It's not like I could blame them, I mean if I saw a nine year old throw a knife and hit the bull's-eye almost every time I would stare as well. Soon after everyone went to gossiping about the extra small nine year old when I heard a voice behind me "Back off boys she is mine." That sparked anger in my young mind and I spun around on my heel ready to snap a t the person but instead I found myself starring at a 12 year old boy. This was not just any boy but Cato Valentine the boy who lived down the street and is extremely cute he had messy blonde hair and the lightest blue eyes with a little bit of grey in them, and in that instant I knew I was hooked.

Throughout the years Cato and I grew very close and he protected me and helped in excelling my training. The protection was from everything, no one could touch me or come close to me unless it was all right with the brutal bloody Cato. That was until the head trainers at the Academy told me I was to be the female tribute in the 74 annual Hunger Games
