I've been reading way too many Finchel stories lately. I was hanging around the finchel-prompts tumblr to read the filled ones, but ended up with an idea and a sudden urge to write. So this is for the Cookie Dough drabble prompt..I'm new to writing fanfiction(well I did it when I was 6 or so, but that doesn't count) so bear with me. I'm only publishing because I'm feeling gutsy today.
Rachel woke up from her afternoon nap to the sweet scent of cookies being baked. Finn had been planning for the last week to make cookies with their 4-year-old daughter, even though he wasn't exactly an expert chef. Or had any real cooking skills at all. However, he insisted on giving it a shot. He had spent the past few days researching how to make chocolate chip cookies, which was pretty pathetic. Rachel had had to give him a demonstration by making her amazing sugar cookies so he could "get the technique right," even though she realized he only wanted them to eat.
Smiling to herself at the fact that the smell wafting from the kitchen was actually good, and the fire alarm hadn't been the thing to wake her up, Rachel made her way towards the aroma. She could soon see the warm glow of the oven and the cookies forming inside. But as she turned the corner into the room, another sight caught her eye.
"Finn! Melody!" Rachel exclaimed. There the two were, sitting on the kitchen floor with a mixing bowl between them. Her daughter took another deliberate handful of cookie dough off the side of the bowl while Finn finished licking his finger.
"Um, hey, Rach," Finn said with a dopey look on his face. Melody giggled.
"What exactly do you think you're doing?" Rachel said, still in shock.
"We're just eating the leftover cookie dough. I always loved doing that when I was a kid," he replied with his signature dopey half-smile.
"Finn! You can't eat anything with raw egg, there could be salmonella!" she said, eyes wide, now only worried for Melody- and Finn's- safety.
"No… No! I made them vegan, so you could eat them too," he reassured her. "No egg. I may not be a cooking genius, but I do love my food, and I saw that when I was googling stuff anyway."
Rachel breathed a sigh of relief. She was about to go on at any rate, lecturing him, but instead kneeled down between them and scraped some of the dough off with her finger. She licked the cold, delicious mix off her finger, then smiled at her family as they enjoyed the rest, awaiting the timer on the oven to ding.
By the way, I saw somebody else use Melody when I was reading a couple days ago, and I liked that it was a music reference for their inner glee club, so I just used that. Kudos to whoever that was, because I'm too lazy to find the story!
