Authors note

I've never really done any form of writing outside of the occasional essay or story back in high school, but I've had this idea for some time and I thought I might as well post it. Please leave reviews and comments for a first time writer.

Chapter one

When a great event is looked upon from the annals of history, there is usually a hero at the centre. A great man or mer who has stepped from the shadows of destruction, picked up his arms and armour, and has sprung into danger with whatever sharp rock or chunk of metal that has has been bequeathed to him by what ever daedra that happened to be bored at the time. To this individual, great statues and monuments are risen in their name and songs are sung in their triumph. This god among men is remembered forever in the whispers of legend.

This hero, however, is not the subject of this story.

For while there are heroes who will fight for the glory of fighting and the affection of the tavern barfly, there are those with more humble ambitions, such as escaping a conflict that seems a waste to a home that is missed. Perhaps this not-so heroic figure has a love he promised he would return to, or perhaps he decided that it would be better to live a coward than to die away from those he cherished. There a form of bravery in this, to throw away ones own honour for those he feels are more important than his own glory.

Sadly, this is also not the hero of this tale.

For the subject of this tale is a bosmer known to many as Felridir Hawk, is a thief who wiled away his hours picking pockets and robbing blind those who weren't attentive enough to close the window that evening. As war puts many of us into positions we would rather not be in, so to did the faction wars place Felridir between a rock and a hard place. As the Aldmeri dominion sunk its talons into the heart of Valenwood, those in power no longer took bribes from small time independents like Hawk. Rather than face the wrath of the law, Felridir left his home of the velyn harbour to sign up to the fighting forces of the Aldmeri dominion, and was quickly snapped up as a scout and skirmisher for smaller escapades into the heart of the continent.

After a brief bout of training and supplying Hawk and his compatriots with equipment that looked like it wouldn't be missed if the body it was attached to was suddenly and inexplicably be a conduit for arrows, they were sent to the heart of the former empire to a war that may change the course of the history of Tamriel.

Felridir Hawk, thief and outlaw, was on his way to the imperial city.
