After Reid talked to Emily, he had thought a lot about what she had said. He had been worried that he hadn't done everything he was capable of, and was starting to worry that it was too late to do anything more with his life. He thought he would do things like cure schizophrenia, but that hadn't happened and he was starting to worry that he was running out of time to do anything more with his life. He was worried that he hadn't reached his full potential. But the more he thought about it, the more he sensed that Emily was right. He realized that he wasn't mean't to do anything like finding a cure for an illness. Everyday, he was working to save people's lives, which was more important and fulfilling than any other job he could have chosen. But he also found in the BAU what he had wanted the most his whole life. A family. All his life he had been looking for a family, somewhere where he belonged. He always felt like he never fit in. But he realized that his team was his family, and he belonged at the BAU. He knew he hadn't let himself down like he thought he had before, but instead he had done just the opposite. He had found his family and a sense of belonging.
