Winged Supers

Violet's POV

Oh, hi. Um, let's see, about me. My name is Alexandrite—Alex, for short. I live with my family—six incredibly cool, smart, and powerful kids like me. I'm the oldest at sixteen. Max, Fang, and Iggy are all fourteen. Nudge is eleven. The Gasman is eight and his younger sister, Angel is six.

I got automatically out of bed and slipped silently down the stairs from what had been Jeb's room. After he died, Max and I agreed that it was definitely time for me to get my own room. I'd get Jeb's old room and Max would get our old room to herself. Angel and Nudge would continue sharing a room, as would the guys.

Max emerged from her room and waved to me. I waved back and then vanished. Like our brother, Fang, I'm really quiet, but I'm pretty much the shiest member of our family. I rarely talk and I tend to vanish on the group. My skills include invisibility and force fields. Max rolled her eyes and asked, "Alex, think the food fairies came?"

I shook my head, and said, "Nah, I think one of us is going to have to go into town soon."

She frowned and I said, "I'll go. It won't take too long. I'll get eggs, juice, milk, bread, ham, steak, apples, oranges, bananas, carrots, and peas."

Max grinned and said, "Or we could just leave."

"Where would we go?" I asked.

She shrugged and soon Gazzy joined us, followed by Iggy, and my almost-twin, Fang. Everyone teased me and Fang, calling us 'almost twins'. Fang grinned at me and I grinned back—we got along rather well, except for when I kept trying to set him up with Max. I knew they liked each other, but they just wouldn't admit it.

Angel and Nudge were gotten out of bed by Max and I grinned at the others.

"Morning, kids," I said, smiling in the shadows.

"Why do you always have to hide, Alex?" Nudge asked. "Why won't you come play with us more often? Are you afraid of us? Don't you like us? Are you going to leave us and you're hiding so we won't find out?"

I groaned and said, "Nudge, it's too early."

She fell silent and we quietly ate breakfast, until we agreed to go strawberry picking.
