Forgetting Last Year: The Sequel to What Are You Doing Here?
My only recommendation is you go back and read the last chapter of: What Are You Doing Here? Since it has been so long. Sorry about that.
Chapter One: Austin
I can blame the things that led me here, or I can embrace them. Or the third option, I can run from them. I turn on my heels and dash out, leaving my past behind, as well as I can. But like usual Nina doesn't know when not to do something.
So I turn to meet my tormentor. Who's haunted my dreams for the past eight months.
"Hi", I say meeting her eyes for the first time. Her face hides emotions, better than it used to, but I see it in her eyes. She had moved on from me, and never wanted to see me again. But I needed to see her.
"Is that all you can say to me?", she asks, anger flooding her tone, I step back. I never meant to hurt her, but then again I never meant to hurt anybody, and I had.
"What do you want to hear?", I ask, was there any right way to go about this?
"Why are you here?", she asks, the anger's left, but it was replaced by a coldness that would freeze all the oceans.
"School.", I reply shortly. The shock on her face is apparent. And then the shock on my face must be apparent as well, as a sting runs along the side of my face. She hit me. What did I do to her? I ruined her life. Or a large portion of it and her memories.
"Whoa, whoa.", Sam states running to us. I watch him take Nina's hand that is still clenched. Are they together now? No, that's something he would tell me. We are friends now.
When he found out about me coming here, he accepted it and made me feel like we were kids again. Maybe that's what I needed the best recovery. Old times. The only problem it would never be like old times without, Nina. The person glaring at me right now.
"You're defending him?", she spit out.
"I'm not defending anyone, I just ask you not hit him every time you see him", he states, ignoring my presence. Not something I'm un used to.
"Why is he here", she asks, her eyes pleading, I did that to her. Of course I did. I'm a monster. A monster who will always remain just that.
"He's going to school here, now.", Sam says with a shrug. Nina sets her eyes on me for a moment.
"Why can't you leave me alone?", she asks, the bitter cold of her voice stinging me, "Why can't you stay away, you're…..a monster", she spits out. And turns quickly on her heels and walks away. I find Sam looking at me a sadness in his eyes.
"She'll come around", he said, "We can't expect her to accept is right away.", he reminds me, "You okay?", he adds as an afterthought.
I shrug in answer. Take a deep breath, warn him I'll see him around, and enter back into the class were the only thing I've ever wanted sits, wrapped with a nice little bow. Like a present, a present I can't have, and don't deserve.
