Past of the Twins
(normal POV)
"Nikara! Ashika! Come down here for a sec!"
No response from the room upstairs ware they sleep.
"But it's the weekend! We're supposed to sleep in today!"
"Hurry up!" their mother called. She was coming up the stairs.
Silence came from the beds once again. The covers of one of the mats whipped back to reveal a young girl with brunette hair about down to her shoulders. At the same time, the second mat's covers whipped back as well to show what looked like a clone of the first girl except with blonde hair
"OK-AA!" they said together, stressing the word, "It's FREEZING!" The two made disappointing attempts to grab the covers that had been keeping them warm from their mother's raised hands. They gave up after a couple seconds and curled into a ball, heads in their knees. Their mother let out a long sigh.
"You don't know what day it is, do you?" The twins didn't comment. "It's very important…" she urged. They sat up quickly. "It involves the both of you…" she smiled. Excitement flashed across the girls' deep brown eyes as they caught the hint. The twins leaned into a fox-like crouch. "And it involves a certain changing number…" Like what seemed as light speed, the two girls sprung of their mats with fox-like movements and landed on all fours outside the door, then raced down the stairs taking four at a time to land in that same four-legged crouch at the bottom of the stairs, only to disappear from their mother's view a they pelted around the corner and into the kitchen where their father was waiting.
"Okaa-san! Hurry up!" Two voices called from down the downstairs kitchen. She let out a small laugh. "I'm coming!" They're growing up so fast, my little girls. Nikara and Ashika. Eight already, its hard to believe."
"Present! Present! Present!" The twins looked at their father with widened eyes of excitement.
"Hehehe alright! Alright!" He laughed at their antics. As their mother entered the room, he pulled out two identical boxes from behind him. As soon as they were in Ashika and Nikara's sight, they were swept from his grasp and in the twins' arms in less than a second. They quickly tore the wrapping off the gifts to reveal two identical sweaters. The fabric was a beautiful sapphire blue, symbolizing the Water Territory in which they lived.
Their chocolate brown eyes shone with delight as they quickly put the sweaters on. With blinding speed, they were out the door and across the many halls of the house to show their grandparents. Their parents laughed as they watched their only children dance with glee as they showed off their new gifts to their grandparents.
"I think they're gonna love what Mom and Dad have for them." Their father whispered to his wife, referring to his parents, who live down the hall. Just as the words left his lips, the twins froze in place and stared expectantly at their grandparents.
"It's amazing that they can hear us whispering from here. No one else in Water can." The twins flashed two ear-to-ear grins at their mother.
"Okaa-san! Otou-san! Look what we got!" They turned the corner at full speed and came to a swift stop. "New socks for winter!" The color of the sapphire blue socks their grandparents gave them matched perfectly with their new sweaters. Their parents smiled as their two now-eight-year-old girls ran through the maze-like halls and stopped at their uncle and aunt's door to receive their present to them.
