Gift
A hat is a wonderful thing.
To Ryan, a hat was the only mark of independence he had, since Sharpay found hats old-fashioned and dull. It was a flare of creativity, a burst of defiance.
To Kelsi, a hat was a fortress, a thing to hide behind. They kept her hair hidden and her eyes lost in shadow. It was her iron fortification, the one thing that she could count on.
And when Kelsi lost her hat to an errant wind, Ryan had opened his multi-functioning locker and given her an identical one.
And then he gave her another gift.
