Summary: The prince isn't always there. That's why fairy tales are only fiction... Kenyako angst
She knew she should be happy. She knew that she should cherish what she had. She had captured the heart of the boy genius, Ichijouji Ken.
He was kind and gentle and chivalrous, the epitome of what a girl would want in this modern age. He was handsome and intriguing, the very model of male beauty. He opened doors for her and pulled her chairs out, insisting on paying as often as he could.
He never forced her to do anymore than she wanted to. He touched her gently, courteously, with reverence.
Then why did her heart ache?
It seemed that every time she reached for him, he recoiled before silently accepting it. His eyes may have been soft when they were alone but they were as mysterious as the sea elsewhere. She was like an afterthought to him, never introduced as his "girlfriend."
And every time she told him, "I love you," he said, "I love you too" distractedly, flatly.
Miyako looked at her boyfriend. His eyes were slightly glazed, gazing out the window of the café at the setting sun. She sipped at her coffee, bitter and hot.
"Winter is coming soon," she said softly.
"Indeed it is," he murmured, turning to look at her slightly, consciousness returning to her eyes.
"Do you love me, Ken?" she asked.
He didn't say anything at all.
He escorted her home and before leaving, like an absent instinct, brushed a soft kiss on her forehead.
Miyako closed the door behind her. She leaned on the comforting hardness of the door, closing her eyes as she slid to the ground.
However she had found her prince in the sunset, it was all just a dream. She was living a distant fantasy in a castle woven of mist and lies, with a savior who was as distinct as the fog upon a winter morning.
Tears gathered at her eyes as she started to cry.
Ironically, I was writing this when feeling particularly down about my own boyfriend. If that wasn't enough, we ended up parting ways a little after that. My apologies, everyone, for seeming to want more reviews by putting this up, but I had to, especially because of a very crude, impolite reviewer who harrasses me, especially in my Digimon stories.
