"So," Lin said with certain drawl, "looks like it's gonna be 7 years for the both of them, provided they both act like model prisoners and do the required rebuilding labor they're scheduled to. Think you can handle that?"

Suyin sighed. "Yeah. Now that I've really stepped back a bit and thought things through, it seems fair." She scrunched her face in consternation, "One of these days I'd like to be informed my inner bitch is running rampant before everything goes sideways, though."

"Sorry," Lin replied sarcastically, "it's a Beifong family tradition. Wouldn't want to upset that, now would we?"

Seated to Suyin's left in the Chief's office, Korra let an undignified snort escape her. Shrugging with a 'what-can-you-do?' smile on her lips in response to the twin glares she received, Korra opened her mouth to put in her two cents when the door opened with a slam.

"Hey, momboss, about this case you've got me on," a dark skinned woman in a non-metalbender police uniform said, "can I have detectiveson back as my partner finally or did you want him to open a bakery first?"

Lin sighed as if she couldn't quite believe her life at the moment. "Yes, Wen, he's back to being your partner again. Though for the love of anything you might hold sacred please let him drive."

Wen smiled cheekily before snapping off a quick salute. "You got it, Chief."

"Momboss?" asked Korra with a grin. "That explains the 'son' in detectiveson."

Lin shook her head ruefully. "I take it you and Wen have crossed paths before?"

"Yeah, when we first left with Tenzin to find new airbenders. She came to wish Mako a happy vacation and if he met any cute earth kingdom girls he was supposed to bring them back so they could share." Korra smirked at this. "Never seen him so embarrassed before, but I didn't tease him about it cause I figured she was probably his one close friend on the force."

"You're not wrong," Lin replied. "They're both damn fine officers who know how to get the job done, but…well…"

"Mako gets caught up in procedure and Wen is the most outrageous tease on the force?"

"You're getting good at this whole perceptive Avatar business, Korra."

"Where did the name momboss come from?" asked a chuckling Suyin.

"Office party. Everything was spiked with cactus juice. I had Tarrlok sign an official certificate stating that I was married to my job. Wen found it a few years later. If we could never speak of this again that would fantastic, by the way."

"Did you ever get it annulled?" Korra asked.

"No. I'm saving it for a rainy day so I can throw Raiko for a loop."

Suyin smiled brightly at this. "His expression would be glorious, wouldn't it?"

"Why do you think I'm going to make sure Wen is there with a camera?" drawled Lin in response.
