Center of the Universe
I could feel his eyes on the back of my head, boring into me, willing me to turn around.
For once, I listened.
The Room was too noisy, the band much too crass, but I looked up anyway because I knew he was waiting.
It was now or never, do or die.
I could feel my jaw slacken as my eyes met the incredible twin blazes which burned into my soul and I involuntarily shivered as I started to walk towards him.
The sane part of my mind wondered what in all the nine hells I was doing and begged, "please God, don't let my father find out!"
The rest of me was still striding calmly towards Him, a figure that, like it or not, had haunted my days and nights for the past endless eternity.
Wherever I turned, he was there. He was the golden-boy, ring-leader of the gryffindorks and his eyes had started following me wherever I went. Is it strange that after awhile, I found myself staring right back?
I stopped half-way across the room and willed him to look back up at my eyes, to read the message waiting there like a dew drop, ready to fall.
"Come on Potter, you can do it" I whispered across the hall
I needed and wanted him to acknowledge the desperate tension which had existed between us for the past few weeks…

"Come on Draco, you can do it, give me just one hint, one glance…"
I saw him shift and there was just enough time for my vocal cords to become a nervous lump before his eyes were suddenly in my field of vision. A sound struggled to make it past the block in my throat and I dimly heard a weak "oh…" escape my lips as I met the shining silver spheres turned towards me, studied the play of light on his pale, golden hair.
I knew that I'd been staring at him in classes lately, Hermione would probably figure it out soon. She'll ask if I'm alright – if I'm even sane.
The truth is, I don't really know if I am sane.
Not anymore.
Looking at Draco stirs a strange mixture of emotions in me, one more potent than the strongest of potions brews. I feel like I know every frown, every sneer and blank expression on that face, that should the challenge he constantly presents me with go un-met for but a day the world as I know it would somehow end.
This feeling oozes through my pores and, frankly, I'm surprised no one's noticed.
'Oh God.' He's coming towards me. What do I do?'
Just as he halts his progress in the center of the hall I start to move towards him and as I reach him no words are said. We just stand for a moment, not touching, just staring into each-others eyes, measuring, questioning, accepting.
I can feel it as my world narrows and in no time at all there is only me and him left, dancing in the center of the room. I smile as he spins me because I know that for those few moments, we are the center of the universe.
