If your cold and lonely, don't despair

I have given you a lady fair

She wears sunglasses on her face

Most think she is just a disgrace

A black cloak on her shoulders

A broom on her back

And in her worn hands she carries a sack

Don't whisper

Or shed a tear

She can do much better

Don't you fear

But you can't help it

When you have fallen for

The Lady in Velvet

- Nina Rouge

Chapter 1: To Each Their Own Craving

From fairest creatures we desire increase,

That thereby beauty's rose might never die,

But as the riper should by time decease,

His tender heir might bear his memory;

But thou, contracted to thine own bright eyes,

Feed'st thy light's flame with self-substantial fuel,

Making a famine where abundance lies,

Thyself thy foe, to thy sweet self too cruel.

Thout that are now the world's fresh ornament

And only herald to the gaudy spring,

Within thine own bud buriest thy content

And, tender churl, mak'st waste in niggarding.

Pity the world, or else this glutton be,

To eat the world's due, by the grave and thee.

Kimberly shut her sonnet book and glared at the man in front of her.

"Your not even listening are you?" she asked him.

The two were near a river bank, relaxing during their summer break from college. Kimberly had her back against the tree, and was reading her book aloud. The man, however, was busy skipping stones into the water.

"It's summer Kim. What makes you think that on a sunny day like this, that I might bother to listen to poetry?" he sneered.

"Because it's beautiful!" Kimberly protested.

"I'm not looking for beauty, because I have you!" the boy answered.

Kimberly blushed.

It was true. No person seemed to be able to resist her. Kimberly had skin as white as snow, lips as red as blood. But those eyes. They were the most beautiful colour. Violet. She often wore dresses that she made herself. Velvet was her favourite. Even on hot days, she would be wearing long velvet dresses.

"Do you want to go to the candy store?" she asked.

The man sighed. "You and your candy! What is it with you? Why can't you use your beauty to get ahead in life?"

"Come on James! Please?" Kimberly pleaded.

James groaned. "Fine!"

Once again, Kimberly found herself entranced by all the candy. She even tried creating some, but always ended up burning something. While examining some lollipops, the door to the shop opened, and Kimberly felt a bit of heat brush against her legs.

"Good day Mr. Wonka. Odd to see you here!" the candy store owner said from behind James, who was looking at some chocolate bars.

"I had nothing to do." Wonka replied.

Kimberly frowned. This person might be a stranger to her, but he almost sounded like he was insulting the place she loved.

"Excuse me sir, but if your here just to insult others, then you can leave!"

Wonka grit his teeth. "Last I checked, it was a free country...miss..."

"Lodge. Kimberly Lodge."

"Well your entitled to your opinion Miss Lodge. Now please, entitle me to mine!" he answered.

"I will not sit here and let you insult this shop sir!"

"It's Mr. Wonka. But you could always call me Wilbur if you wish."

Kimberly wanted to win this battle so badly.

"And what do you do as a profession Wilbur?"

"Well, currently I am training to be a dentist, wish is more the reason as to why I don't like this place!"

James put a hand on Kimberly's shoulder.

"Let it go!" he whispered.

For a moment she simply looked at Wilbur. Than she sighed.

"I want you to know that everyone has a craving. It's alright to do something you normally wouldn't.So long as it isn't too evil." Kimberly said. "Good day Mr. Wonka!"
