Jealous Guy
Natalie sat at the bar in Rodi's, downing her fifth shot of vodka, looking miserable in a roomful of happy people. In her head, Natalie saw scenes of her uncle Bo in his hospital bed, fighting for his life. She saw John and Marty standing there looking like a happy little family. She hated Marty for being pregnant with John's child. She hated John for being so in love with Marty. She hated herself for being so jealous. Natalie wished that Jared was sitting there with her. She missed him so much. Life just wasn't the same without him. All of a sudden, Natalie felt a hand on her shoulder. She turned around and was shocked by what she saw.
"Nathaniel Marsden?" she slurred.
"Hello to you too, Balsom. Still hitting the bottle I see" said Nathaniel as he smirked.
Natalie tried to get up off of the bar stool, but she drunkenly stumbled and almost fell straight on her ass until Nathaniel caught her. Natalie looked up, embarrassed by what happened. Nathaniel took it upon himself straighten Natalie out. She let out a little chuckle and fixed her clothes.
"Nathaniel, what are you doing here? I haven't seen you in years" said Natalie.
"Well, I had just got back from Dallas and found out from Roxie's neighbor that you two had run off to some town called Llanview, so I had to come check it out for myself" said Nathaniel.
Natalie looked at Nathaniel sheepishly and said "I knew you would come back for me".
They locked eyes for a moment in time, both of them reliving memories from oh so long ago. Nathaniel cleared his throat and ran his hand through his sandy blonde hair. Natalie stared into his green orbs, hoping to see a stitch of emotion on his face. Something. Anything.
"Well aren't you going to say something Nathaniel?" asked Natalie, staring down at her Manolo Blahniks.
"Don't get all mushy on me Balsom, I haven't even been here for ten minutes yet" said Nathaniel.
Natalie tugged at her shirt once more saying "Actually, I haven't been a Balsom for years now. My new last name is Banks".
Natalie held up her left hand to show Nathaniel her wedding ring. Nathaniel chuckled and shook his head.
"So somebody actually had the balls to tame you? I can't believe it. Where is the lucky man so I can congratulate him" said Nathaniel looking around.
Natalie played around with her mother in law's locket around her neck.
"My husband was murdered six months ago" whispered Natalie, once again looking down at her 600 hundred dollar shoes.
"Nattie, I'm so sorry" said Nathaniel as he took her into his arms.
Natalie clung onto him for dear life as sobs made their way through her body. Over the course of the next two hours, Natalie told Nathaniel everything that had happened in her life. From the years of 2002-2010, Nathaniel new every little detail, feeling, thought Natalie had thought. She kept out the parts about her awakened feelings for john because those just made her feel wrong in a way. At around one in the morning they got kicked out of the small bar and Nathaniel waked Natalie to her car.
She looked up at him with a shy grin on her face and said, " Thank you so much Nate, I've been so broken lately, and you kinda put me back together a little bit".
"Don't worry about it, you know I'm always there for you" said Nathaniel.
Those words sparked something in Natalie's soul. It brought her back to her childhood, where when Nate said those words, everything was alright. Natalie smiled one more time and got into her car, thankful that she didn't let John Mcbain ruin her night.
