Disclaimer: I don't own: Alex, Olivia, Law & Order SVU, Tortured, Gina Bernardo or whatever her name is, including her quotes . . . etc. Do I have it covered?
Here's a post-Tortured ficlet for all you A/O lovers. Enjoy!
Alex and Olivia are lying in bed that night, holding each other. Alex can't sleep. She keeps replaying the day's events in her mind. Even though it doesn't show, this is one of the cases that will stick with her.
"This one really bothered me," she tells Olivia.
Olivia rolls her eyes. "If it's because you don't like being called an uptight, self-righteous bitch, rest assured that I don't see you that way." Then she flashes the ADA her patented, lopsided grin. "Well, usually."
Alex sighs. "That's not it. It's just – there's always an excuse. Excuse after excuse after excuse why people aren't responsible for their actions. So where do we come in?"
Olivia considers. "Maybe in twenty years, we don't."
Alex rests her head on Olivia's shoulder. "That's comforting."
Olivia strokes her hair. "Optimists live longer, babe."
"Then I'll die young. Very young," responds Alex dryly.
"Me, too," agrees Olivia. She kisses Alex's hair. "Love you, babe."
Alex snuggles closer to the detective. "Love you, too."
