Symbolic
A Naruto Fanfiction
Sakura
It was only symbolic that Sakura Haruno became hokage. Even though Naruto always wanted to be hokage so that the entire village would see him, it only seemed right that it wasn't him. Even though Sasuke Uchiha would have been a perfect choice, he could never have been hokage.
~*~
"Sakura, it's time," Ino Yamanaka said.
"Ok," Sakura replied to the girl who was now a woman.
~*~
It was only symbolic that Sakura became hokage alone. She had no one with her that day. Even though she had Ino beside her and everyone in the village in front of her, she was in a universe by herself.
She didn't have the three people that mattered the most to her. Sasuke was gone. Naruto was gone. She didn't have them beside her.
Ino was behind her. She was still a girl compared to Sakura.
Even though they were the same age.
~*~
Sakura stood up. It was time. She didn't have all day. This was what she wanted.
She didn't want to be alone.
~*~
It was only symbolic that Sakura was the one who was strong enough. After all her life of watching Sasuke and Naruto, it was time that she was the one who stood up there, and led the entire village of ninjas.
Even though Sasuke would have been a better ninja, and even though Naruto would have been more enthusiastic, without ever thinking twice, it only made sense that it was Sakura.
Sasuke wouldn't have had the strength to lead the village. Naruto wouldn't have had the patience to lead the village. None of her fellow ninjas would have had the resilience to live the life she'd lived. No one had the experience she had.
~*~
Sakura looked out the door to where she'd be stepping out onto. She saw the ninjas who she'd been in the academy with. She saw Iruka Umino, her former teacher. She saw Kakashi Hatake, the jounin who had trained her.
~*~
It was only symbolic that it was Sakura. How many people could be her?
~*~
Sakura took a deep breath and stepped out to the balcony. The entire village cheered for her.
Sakura's only regret was that the two people who mattered most wouldn't be there to see her.
~*~
It was only symbolic that Sakura was the strongest. It was only right that the next hokage was Sakura.
It was only Sakura who would be the next hokage.
~*~
"She's amazing!" a young girl said to her mother, "I want to be just like Sakura when I grow up!"
"I knew her. She really is the only one who could've become hokage," a blond man said from next to them.
That was so much fun to write. I always feel that Sakura's the only one who could be the next hokage.
