A/N- Two mega angst-y one-shots in a day? What is going on with me?

Anyway, sorry about the grammar, hope you enjoy!

It was the look on her face when she said those three words. Three words he had never thought he'd hear her say, hoped he'd never hear her say.

Bold, fearless, courageous, that was what she was known for being. But seeing her now, he saw an expression on her face he had only ever seen a handful of times: fear. Jenny Sheppard was never scared, yet there she stood, tears forming in her eyes, fear causing her hands to shake as se said those three words.

He'd known things weren't okay. Known everything wasn't as fine as she made out, but something stopped him from asking, from investigating. Maybe it was because of Paris, or spite after the whole frog thing. But whatever it was that had stopped him, well it was stupid. He'd neglected her, stood by and watched as day by day he saw the pain and fear become inscribed on her face. As the lines she wore became deeper and she aged.

Thirty Seven, 37, that was how old she was. Still so young, her whole life ahead of her. Director was not her limit, she could have gotten higher than the SecNav. But no, because life had thrown one hell of a hurdle in her way, only this time it was too big for her to jump, too big for him to help her over.

Three words was all it took for the red headed director to say to cause her to break down I tears.

Three words was all it took for her to say to cause the former Marine's shell to crack, for him to do something so uncharacteristic, to cry.

Three words was all it took for them to spend a day on her office floor together crying and sharing stories of times bygone.

Three words was all it took for them both to realise how big a mistake it was being apart, but how too late it now was.

Three words was all it took for their worlds to come crashing down around their feat.

All it took was these three words:

"I'm dying Jethro"
