Shattered Twilight

Imp Midna x Wolf Link oneshot. Set before Link gets the Master Sword.(I think, haven't played the game in ages)

"Link! Stop her!" Midna cried out desperately, but it was no use. As her small body floated in the air, she could feel Zelda's Triforce flowing into her. Her body regained its color, and her strength returned to her. Then, Zelda was gone. Just gone. The place where she once stood was now empty as the remaining two occupants gazed at the floor where she had been. Midna floated down softly. Zelda had given her life so that Midna could live. So that she could continue to travel with Link. Link…

"Well, come on, puppy. We have places to be." She flipped onto his back, trying to remain calm. But Link could smell her tears.

'What's wrong? ' The wolf spoke, though into her mind. He was concerned. Throughout their journey, Midna had shown herself to be cold, almost uncaring toward others. Now that she was crying, all of her barriers had fallen and he could see her true self.

"…Why would she do that…? She, who shouldn't have been involved…" Now, the tears were flowing.

'It's okay…don't cry.' Link tried to comfort her.

"…Why do you care? I've been horrible to you. I forced you into this whole thing, without asking your permission. You could have just left me when you got out of that cell."

'But I didn't. I…Midna…. I want to help you. This may not be my problem, but no one can handle everything on their own. I want to do this with you.'

"But, why? After I behaved like that…"

'Because, Midna. I love you.' Perhaps he hadn't meant to say that out loud, even if only as a thought. But, regardless, it was true. He had grown to love her, this person who had forcefully become part of his life.

"You…love me…? But…" She was shocked, that a light dweller, that anyone, that Link could like her, let alone love her. But Link was honest. He wouldn't lie to her…right? He wouldn't lie to her and use her and throw her away…he wouldn't be like Zant…

'Please, Midna. Let me help you. I want to make everything okay, but I can't if you don't let me in first.'

"Link…" Now she was sobbing, holding tightly to his neck, staining his fur with her tears.

'Please stop crying…you'll only make yourself sick.'

"Link…I-I love you, too!" she held onto him, crying for minutes. Then, when she had collected herself, they set off toward their next destination. She did love him, and she knew that he wouldn't leave her. She knew that he could help her repair this shattered twilight.
