Report: Electricity Generation

Nuclear Potential

Nuclear power uses nuclear reactors that use natural uranium fuel and heavy water, which is different from normal water and it much heavier. This type of energy has two main advantages to it that it is cost efficient, and it also does not contribute to the huge amount of pollution in the city , which is great for cities like Toronto. Some disadvantages might include the noise it makes even though this nuclear energy seems to be good for the environment with next to nothing as far as pollution goes it may not so be so good for the people living in and around these plants because of the noise that maybe coming from it. This is an ideal application it uses natural goods to create and produce electricity sending it into homes all over the city.

Hydroelectric Power

Hydro Electric power has eight main parts to it : 1)Forebay 2)Intake 3)Transformer 4)Generator 5)Penstock 6)Turbine 7)Draft Tube 8)Tailrace. The main equation as far as hydro is concerned is water+gravity=hydro. The main advantages of this method of producing electrity are that it is low cost, and has an endless supply of natural resources. A huge disadvantage of this method would be the permanent damage it can cause on the local ecosystem. This is an ideal application for a city that has a large endless supply of water.

Fossil Fuels

Fossil Fuels is produced by the spinning electromagnets that spin inside of a coil wire this is done to create the flow of electrons, once this is don't fossil fuels are then burned into heart water that will create steam causing the turbines to propel and create electricity. Advantages are that is proven to be one of the cleanest electricity suppliers which are wonderful for the environment. Disadvantages include the fact that it takes lots of transportation to get the large amount of fuels to the plant.

Biomass Energy

The biomass energy uses forest products, by burning these items, saw mills and pulp and paper plants create heat with this crating steam, with enough electricity to meet their needs. Some advantages would be the fact that when using fuels and alcohols in the burning process they are efficient and relatively clean. This method contributes a great deal into global warming; it also is quite an expensive source in producing biomass and converting it into alcohols.

Wind Energy

Wind energy is moved by the wind in the air moving the propellers that generate electrical Advantage would be that the wind is a renewable source that will never perish and will always be valuable; it is also the largest renewable source in Canada. Disadvantages are the cost it very expensive to buy and not only that they are hard to maintain. It would also be very noisy for the surrounding areas so that wouldn't do very well in a city. This is the best ideal method because it is so natural using the wind to power so many things.
