Shopping with a Vampire
"Bella," a fluid voice called from behind me, causing me to stop in my tracks to turn and stare at the boy—vampire—that had called my name. He wore his usual crooked grin, his hair in a messy array like normal, and he grabbed my hand softly as he came to a stop in front of me. "I was thinking that we could hang out today."
Pursing my lips, I glanced around the parking lot and noticed his family standing by his Volvo, some with curious expressions and others without downright pissed off ones. "What about your family?" I asked, looking back at Edward with an eyebrow raised. "I mean…don't they, I don't know, hate me?"
He only chuckled, his thumb rubbing over the top of my hand as he continued to hold it. "Of course not. They don't hate you. They merely…They're worried."
"About?" I asked, but I noticed the way his eyes darkened at the thought. "Oh, right." They were worried that I was going to become his next meal. Of course. "Well, I'd love to hang out but I have to do some grocery shopping for Charlie. Lord knows he can't buy anything decent for himself," I chuckled.
"Grocery shopping, you say?" he asked, raising an eyebrow. "May I come with you?"
"Um, I guess so…" I trailed off. He wanted to go grocery shopping with me? Well, that was…different. "On one condition, though."
"What's that?"
"I drive."
Edward chuckled and gave a nod as he wrapped his arm around my shoulder. "Of course."
During the drive to the grocery store, pretty much the only one in this town, Edward held my hand as he talked about his family, telling me how thrilled they were about meeting me. I was worried about how well they would like me and this got a laugh out of him.
"You're one strange human," he mused as I pulled into the parking lot of the grocery store, his eyes full of mirth as he fought a smile.
I rolled my eyes at him as I brought the truck to a stop. "Yeah, yeah. Come on, this should be interesting."
Edward, being the gentleman that he was, offered to carry the basket as we walked through the aisles, making random faces as he looked at different brands of food.
"Ragu? That doesn't even sound appealing," he said as he held the can of spaghetti sauce in his hand, looking at the wrapper with his eyebrows knitted together. "Even the contents look disgusting."
"Well, it's better than blood," I chuckled, grabbing the can from him and sticking it into the basket.
As if that wasn't enough, we had made it to the freezer section and after I placed a chunk of Ground Beef into the basket, he balked.
"That doesn't even look like an animal."
"Who would want to eat something while it still looks all cute and cuddly?"
Edward didn't say anything; he only looked at me with a raised eyebrow.
I rolled my eyes. "It was a joke," I said as we continued shopping.
As we went through the checkout line, I couldn't help but think that I was never going to go grocery shopping with him again.
A/N: Oh look, my first one-shot. Yay. This was written for a good friend of mine (whom I refer to as my twin time and time again) and I figured I'd might as well put it up on this site. I had fun thinking about what he would say when Bella picked out different items.
I don't expect many reviews. This was mainly written for fun and as a gift. :)
