Think on This

By Aislinn

"Nathan, can I ask ya a question? "Vin asked.

"Course,"

"How come you never turned me in fer this bounty on my head?" Vin leaned back in his chair and stared at the healer.

For a moment Nathan couldn't speak he was so shocked. "Vin! You're innocent. I could never turn in an innocent man like that!"

Vin raised an eyebrow. "How do you know I'm innocent?"

Nathan stared at him in confusion. "What the hell kind of stupid question is that? I know you. We have ridden together for what? Two years now?"

"Yeah, 'bout that.. But I could be lying to y'all."

"Yeah right," Nathan snorted. "Actions speak louder than words, ya know. I think after a couple years I would know if a man was lying to me or not." He jumped as Vin sat bolt upright in his chair and slammed his fist down on the table.

"Exactly," Vin snarled. "Least ways you would if you wasn't so all fired determined to think the worst of a man cause of yer own damn prejudice!"

Nathan blanched at his words. "I… I don't know what you mean," he sputtered.

Vin shook his head in disgust. "Like hell you don't! I heard what you said to Ezra, but Nathan when you climb down off that high horse yer on, I want ya to think on this… that girl came looking for him! And if an abused girl, who has known him for all of five minutes, can tell he's a good man behind that mask he wears, then why the hell can't you?"

Just a missing scene from Chinatown.

Not mine, but Alphabet people obviously don't deserve them and can't be trusted with them so sneaking them out the back door.

No, I do not think Nathan is evil. I think that he, like Ezra, is a man of his time, but "I had a bad childhood" is no excuse for how he treats Ezra (and that is cannon so no flames!). And before someone screams about my vilifying the poor black man, I could care less whether Nathan is black, white or green with purple pokadots. I think that prejudice runs both ways and somebody needed to smack him down off that high horse! Josiah is getting the next tirade btw.
