It's been almost fifteen minutes since you two started this walk and Sollux hasn't said a god damn thing. He strolls along with his hands in his hoodie pockets not making eye contact, only looking over occasionally to make sure you're still beside him. It's cold outside, mid November, you brace yourself against the wind in your light jacket. Sollux didn't elaborate when he asked you to "come walk", but it's turning out to be longer than expected.
"Soooooooooo," you drawl out, quickening your pace to catch up with your boyfriend. "Where the fuck are we going?"
"Thomewhere," He deadpans, pushing has hands deeper into his pockets. You can see him wringing his hands together through the worn fabric. He's had this hoodie since high school, and even though you've offered to get him a new one he has always declined.
"Yeah, well can I know where 'thomewhere' is?" You ask. imitating his lisp.
He quickens his pace, and you quicken yours as well. "Don't make fun of my fucking lithp KK!" He slows down and stops in front of an old church building. You stand by him in the cold, staring up at his face. He avoids looking at you directly. "Look, I need to talk to you about thomthing."
Oh no.
"Lithten, KK" he starts talking, but you already know where this is headed. "We've been together for a really, really long time" Oh god no, you think. "We've had thome really awethome timeth together," He's going to break up with me, you think. "and it'th amazing we've been together thith long." You start to feel the stinging sensation of tears and close your eyes, "When I look back at all the fun thtuff we've done, like homecoming and college. I jutht, well, KK?"
"Mmhmm?" you squeak out, keeping your gaze away from his which for the first time you can tell, is on you.
"I think, umm, we kind of, need to move onto a new chapter in our liveth" You open your eyes. If Sollux is going to dump me after seven years then he's going to have to look me in the eye when he does it, you think. Using all your self control to hold back the tears you look up to where Sollux's face should be, only to be met by nothing.
"Karkat Vantath" you look down to see Sollux on one knee, nervously hold up an open little red velvet box, containing a ring. "Will you marry me?" You look down at him dumbfounded, it takes you a moment to process the situation. The tears spring and break free as you sink down and wrap your arms around him.
"YES YES YES YES YES YES YES," you're laughing and sobbing, hugging your wonderful boyfriend. He shakes free of you and pulls the ring out of the box, very shakily slipping it onto your finger. It's gold, with a tiny ruby on the middle. Perfect.
"KK" he whispers to you, looking him in the eyes you can see he's been crying too, tears of happiness. "I love you tho much."
"Me too," You clasp your hands in his, feeling the ring in between your short and his bony fingers. You press your lips to his, "Me too."
