A/N: This is kind of random but the idea came to me and I just went with it. Might expand the story further, let me know what you think.

"You going in or what?" he asked as he walked up to her.

He had been watching her from a few feet away as she paced to and from the door working up the courage to walk in.

"Oh my gosh Lucky, you startled me. What are you doing here?"

"I'm here for the NA meeting," he said nodding towards the conference room where the meeting was being held.

She was speechless. Of all the people she was afraid of running into at the hospital tonight, Lucky wasn't one of them. She had certainly never expected there to be anyone she knew at the meeting.

"Should I, uh, save you a seat?"

"Ah, no. You know what, I'm not really sure I should be here. This was a bad idea, I should just go," she said as she tried to make a quick escape.

"Brenda, wait." He stopped just as she walking away.

She turned around slowly, slightly embarrassed at being such a coward.

"Look, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to put you on the spot like that. It's just that you've been pacing this hallway for the past fifteen minutes and I was just trying to lighten the mood a little. You know help you relax."

"I know," she smiled at him. "It's just I never thought I'd be here again. I mean it's been so long. I really thought I had it beat you know."

It had been years since she'd taken any drugs, but as her life was imploding around her she couldn't help but crave the blissful numbness that painkillers provided. She would give just about anything to dull the sharpness of the pain even for a little while.

"Yeah," he nodded with complete understanding. "That's why I like to come to these meetings every now and then. Helps me put things in perspective you know. Reminds me what I've been through and what's at stake."

"I could definitely use some perspective, that's for sure," she admitted sadly. "You know, it's been over a decade and I still remember my dealer's number. Pretty sad, right."

"Not really. Tell you what, next time you think of that number, call me instead," he said as grabbed her phone out of her hand and programmed his number into it.

"Really?"

"Yeah. Now come on. Let's get in there and then later we can sneak into Kelly's for some pie."

"Well, when you put it that way..." she laughed as they walked into the meeting together.
