The queen was inspecting the soldiers as Beatrix walked up the stairs. Everything in this castle reminded her of Queen Brahne's terrible reign - it was impossible for her to move on because it had had such a profound effect on her. It was in here that Beatrix had beat Zidane and his friends into submission, by the sadistic order of Queen Brahne. It was in this castle that Queen Brahne had almost killed Garnet, just for her power of Eidolons, while Beatrix knew nothing of it.

Power…it's an infectious disease that causes cities to crumble and corrupts leaders to a point of paranoia. They yearn for more but don't realise it's the power that's controlling them; how depressingly ironic. Beatrix had claimed to have strength when she challenged Zidane in Burmecia; she was wrong. No; real strength comes from the heart, not from abilities.

The General sighed as she reached Queen Garnet's room. It's soft, pale colour soothed her soul and led her thoughts away from the corruptness of the world. The window glimmered as the sun emphasised the peacefulness of the bedroom; this could not be a place plagued by sorrow.

Her attention turned to the wooden table to the side of the room where a single chair stood solemnly to attention. She removed the 'Save the Queen' from its glittering sheath and admired it in the natural light. Reflected in the sword's blade, she saw everything she had done and fought for during her time at Alexandria; she saw her training as a guard, she saw her promotion to General, she saw the teenage princess Garnet singing sadly and harmoniously at the window, she saw the corruption of Queen Brahne, she saw the fall of Alexandria at the claws of Bahamut, and, last of all, she saw Captain Steiner as he was when they met by the river. A chance meeting, but still a meeting.

With tenderness, Beatrix placed the great sword on the table as she felt a part of her had been torn away. "You have served me well, 'Save the Queen', but I must move on from this torment. Farewell," she saluted and walked slowly out the door.
