You lie awake tonight. Usually you can sleep within 10-15 minutes of going to bed which is the scientifically deemed safe amount of time, you consider this a beneficial skill, if anyone knows how important sleep is for memory processing, brain growth, the healing of wounds and energy conservation it's you. You're Maura Isles.
Tonight, however, you simply can not sleep. Tonight you can not stop entertaining notions of Jane.
It's 3 am now and you've taken up evaluating Jane's role in your life.
In actual fact you have a hypothesis: Jane is your best friend.
You've never had one before, so you don't have a control relationship to compare your current situation to, which is worrying. It makes you feel uncertain. You don't like feeling uncertain.
There's a method by which you can prove your hypothesis. It's already been carried out many times, even if the circumstances have changed slightly each time, so really you don't have any doubts over the reliability of your findings. Each situation in which Jane has been there for you, done something selfless for you or spent hours reading up on material she couldn't possibly be interested in, just to impress you is a result of how Jane feels for you.
A result that has led you to the conclusion that if Jane Rizzoli did not care for you, she would not have done any of this. You don't have any experiences with best friends but you've had a few friends before and you know that everything Jane has done goes above and beyond.
To Jane, you are something special.
To you, Jane is your best friend.
Your hypothesis has been proved correct.
And yet you still can not sleep.
Random drabble of randomness. I'm pretty sure I made up the fact that Jane reads up on scientifical stuff to impress Maura but wouldn't it be cute if she did. :) Review?
