I own nothing!

Short story based on a theory by poetofthepiano on tumblr.

There's a lot there under 'Some Thoughts On Pink Diamond' but one of their points was that the Earth probably was valuable to Homeworld because it could make Quartz soldiers with relative ease. Quartzes are high ranking soldiers, unlike Rubies which are 'common soldiers,' so having a planet produce so many of them would be greatly beneficial to Homeworld, which is why they fought so hard for the Earth instead of surrendering.

Lemon Quartz stood in wait, knowing the first soldiers of this planet's kindergarten would be emerging soon. It was her job to take census of the new recruits that came out of this quadrant of the kindergarten and steer them towards their respective tasks. A few Rubies stood in front of her in formation, ready to run and grab the emerging gems.

The ground shook for just a moment and the first of hopefully many gems emerged. To her left a substantially large hole formed in the rock, and out came "A Quartz already. Not bad for a such a pathetic planet," Lemon said as a Ruby fetched the Milky Quartz. She made note of this as another tremor shook the ground, more than before. This time four holes appeared. Four more Quartzes. Not very surprising, she thought. We Quartzes usually come out first. Ready to serve our Diamonds.

She quickly took note as three Citrines and an Amythest hurried towards her, ready to give orders.

One of the Rubies called out to her companions "There's more over here!"

Even more Quartzes. "Interesting." Lemon decided to wait a moment before doling out responsibilities, see how many more soldiers would come. The next rumble of the Earth nearly knocked two of the Rubies off their feet. No more Quartzes then, I suppose. The larger tremor meant more gems at a time, likely Apatites, maybe a few Corundums.

"Hey! This way!" a Ruby shouted.

What Lemon saw next left her frozen for a moment before stepping back to take in what happened before her. Everywhere she looked, a Quartz soldier was emerging from this pitiful chunk of rock. There was an Onyx. And over there was Rose Quartz. And another Citrine. And a Blue Quartz.

Lemon immediately got back to work recording the incoming soldiers as the ground vibrated once again. "Pink Diamond will be so pleased to hear this!" She took out the Communication Crystal she'd been holding onto. She was supposed to report to Pink Diamond after the kindergarten emptied, but this could hardly wait. she twisted the top of the device and a screen appeared before her.

"This in the Pink Diamond Moon base. Ah, Lemon Quartz, Pink Diamond has been expecting you. Is this regarding the Earth Kindergarten?"

"Of course. Can I talk to Pink Diamond?"

"I trust the emergence was a sucess?"

"As always, now may please speak to-"

"All gems recorded, directed, and dispersed?"

"Well that's why I've-"

"Is that a no?"

"Pearl, is that the Topaz, the Lemon Quartz, the Star Quartz, or the Emery?"

"Lemon Quartz, my Diamond."

"Then I'll finish this call."

"My Diamond," Lemon Quartz said, saluting her superior, her ruler, her Diamond.

"What is your report?"

"Well the emergence is still underway-"

"And you chose to call already. Why?"

"So far every gem, at least twenty by now, has been a Quartz soldier!"

"What?!" the Pearl gasped in the background.

"Interesting. This may alter my original plans. Thank you for your report Lemon Quartz."

"It was an honor, my Diamond."

"It appears I'm receiving another report. Let's hope your companions are having as much luck. Hm?" With that the screen went black.
