"A glass of champagne, mein freund?" Kurt smiled, the devilish wisps of smoke that signalled his teleport clung to him, exaggerating the blue suit he wore. His tail snaked back and forth, waiting for the responses. Acknowledging the terrified shake of the head, he grinned and teleported again.
It all seemed so long ago now, the fiasco of the Weapon X project, the first time he had come in contact with the X-men – one of these days he would ask what was so important about the letter X.
"Champagne anyone?"
He had grown up so much since then, physically and mentally. The world was no longer the refuge he had first thought it to be. And then he met the X-men again during that ridiculous fiasco with Magneto attempting to nuke the world.
"A glass of champagne, sir?"
It had been a surprise, well, not really. Kurt had to admit that he had been expecting to bump into the X-men again – but the circumstances were odd. But then again, he was blue with glowing eyes, he was odd incarnate.
"Might I tempt you with a drink, Herr Stark?"
"Oh, I'm sure you can twist my arm, young man."
And this time he had accepted the offer to stay with the X-men, as had Rogue. That made him smile, perhaps one day she would touch again. One day. But first, he had hyper 'kids' to baby-sit who were no older than him.
"Hey, how about a little Dom Perignon for me and Kitty while my Mom and Dad aren't looking, Nightcrawler?"
Ah, the Nightcrawler name tag was still with him. He smiled at Bobby, swiping the platter out of the way. "Uh-uh. Not unless you can show me some very convincing I.D. Mister Drake."
Another teleport, more champagne being offered, al the while his mind was racing. He still felt awful about giving up the information about the safe house, but apparently the children were receiving the best care possible.
Funny that it only took the near destruction of the world to make humans a little more open eyed. Kurt smiled, teleporting in on Rogue and her parents after hearing the conversation, the professor exaggerating as always that curses were just blessing in disguise.
"He is absolutely right, you know. Help yourself to a slice of battenburg and let me tell you why I decided to lend my support to this academy."
"Y'all just keep smiling, honey. Just bite your lip and graduation days gonna come round soon enough, y'hear?" The mother whispered to her husband, her voice easily picked up by the blue mutants sensitive hearing.
Kurt teleported off again, continuing with his serving of wine and cakes. It was interesting to see how families reacted; he spotted Hanks and couldn't help but laugh. The American culture was just as materialistic as always as they confessed to using their son just to make money.
Feeling better and happy in the knowledge that his family were safe in Germany, he slipped into the shadows, listening in on the professor as he spoke to General Fury. It was an interesting discussion and one that Kurt had fully expected. Xavier was a cat only just showing its claws.
And speaking of cats, Mystique sounded oddly familiar for some reason. He shrugged and looked at the plate in his hand.
"A glass of champagne, mein freund?" He chuckled. "Don't mind if I do."
