I pull out my headset and press a small green button on the side.

"All personnel report to the bridge please." I drone into the mouthpiece.

Our ship, 'The Vanquish Armada' cruises along smoothly.

Shortly afterwards, about 9 people enter the bridge.

"We followed our schedule as planned, and did a maintenance check , just in case." says one of the crew.

I smile at their consideration.

"Well, we are all thinking logically today, aren't we?" I say.

I snatch up a hovering piece of paper next to me.

"Right. I'll give you all a small job to do, then we can all head off to bed." I say, yawning from exhaustion.

I look down at the paper.

"Wes?"

A short, pudgy child appears out of the crowd. He blinks his small blue eyes and scratches his ruffled brown hair.

"Yes, ma'am!" he says.

"Could you check the thrusters for me?" I ask.

"No need to ask twice." he says, running of towards the thruster control panels.

"Juney?"

An average heighted teenager steps out. She looks around slowly, her earthy coloured eyes searching for something.

"I'm here." she says slowly.

I hand her a multi coloured stone. She squeals.

"Where did you find it?" she asks.

"I saw it under a cloth in the kitchen." I say.

"Umm. The job?" she asks me.

"Oh. Could you check the airlocks to see if the pressure is ok?" I ask.

"Sure. Oh, thank you." she says, examining her stone and running out of the bridge airlock.

"Keigan?"

Another teen, only quite a bit higher than Juney, steps out, smiling. He scratches his blonde hair and looks around the room.

"Why are you smiling?" I ask him quizzically.

"I just found out how to hack into another ships computer!"

I frown.

"I'm kidding! I saw a space comet fly past, about 9o'clock!" he says.

"Ah, it might bring you good luck, then. You never know." I say.

"Could you please check on the computer systems? I'm a bit worried about the stabiliser." I ask him.

"Uh, yeah. It's just…I snapped one of the chords." he says.

I look up and sigh.

"Mmm. Which chord was it?"

"The backup system chord, I suppose." he says, kicking his feet as he realised everyone was looking at him.

"Oh, good. I can fix that. Hang around and after everyone has done their asignment and gone to bed. I'll come and help you, okay?" I say.

"Mmm." he says, sitting on a seat nearby.

"Mark?"

A tall man steps out, ruffling his blonde shaded hair.

"Yeah?" he asks.

"Can you go to the engine room and warm up the engine?"

"Yeah." He shuffles away.

Suddenly, I hear this strange hissing noise...

Everything turns black...
