Prologue
He knew something wasn't right about the evening. As he stepped out onto his porch, he wondered what made the air so different that night. Was it his urge to go into battle?
Or was it something more?
Adrian Dyson was now fifty-eight years old and retired. He was like any other person that lived in the mountains of Suferas. Except he goes to town more than twice a year.
He was known by another name though. He was more well known as Jerico. Even after he retired from the Service, he still wore his bangle. Is that why he was so anxious tonight. He knew what his bangle could make him feel. He was one of the strongest members of the service, and knew very well the kind of bloodlust that he and others like him have experienced.
No, tonight was different. There was a tension in the air that even made the forest fall silent. Then he knew…
"I think tonight would be a nice night to die."
He stood there, absorbing the last gleam of the sun as it set. The last sunset he would see again.
"I won't resist," he said plainly, "I've done terrible things in my past. If you're here for retribution, then take it. If the Service sent you, then tell them that I'll see them in hell."
The sudden gust of wind would have been mistaken as such by anyone not trained to recognize what had just happened. And as quick as he came, the assassin left, his job was done. Then, Adrian Dyson fell to darkness.
