HI. It's my first time writing Jetko, though I've been shipping them forever. If you're a reader of my HD stories, I haven't abandoned them (yet)! And I'm not really sure when Zuko told Jet his name so pardon me for the inconsistencies with canon :P Hope you like this fic.
It's funny, Jet thinks, how much he likes Li. He'd never felt that way for Katara, ever. The feeling burst to life when he saw a fair-skinned teenager with a nice ass (barely visible through the long garment) leaning over the railing after spitting out the swill that the chefs on the ship served, complaining bitterly about living "like this". Jet knew what he meant. That he was a refugee too, like them.
He didn't know the guy had such brilliant amber eyes, though. They looked like the bloody last rays of a dying sun, not that Jet was especially poetic or anything. And the raid- hell, running up those stairs behind that guy was a bad idea. He was so smooth and graceful with the blades, swift and sure, that Jet felt a tiny thrill slide up his spine at the sight of the guy's deft movements, wondering what he would be like in bed. Where did that come from, Jet wondered just before Smellerbee hissed a furtive "guard's coming!" to prompt them into action.
He saw Smellerbee and Longshot sitting with Amber Eyes and old man while he went around distributing the food to the elderly. Smellerbee got up in a huff and left, Longshot trailing after in worry. He sat down and started the conversation, hoping to get words out of Amber Eyes. He watched how the old man spoke, and gazed at Amber Eyes thoughtfully.
I really need to start giving this guy a name, Jet thought wryly.

He didn't know how to start a conversation with Amber Eyes alone. He nearly asked Smellerbee about it, seeing as she was a girl, and actually spoke, unlike Longshot. When he mentioned possible future conversation topics with Li, he saw her expression.
"You just want to shag him," she pointed out half-crossly. She was probably still sore that Li's uncle thought she was a boy. He mulled it over in bed, tossing and turning before just giving up and facing the ceiling. Then it hit him like a ten-ton pile of earth. He could invite Li to join the Freedom Fighters.
The next day, he approached Li while the ship was shrouded in mist. He didn't miss the way Amber Eyes tensed when he said, "I knew exactly who you were." Jeez, was Li an ex-convict or something? He hastened to add "you're an outcast, like me" and saw Li's shoulders relax a fraction. Jet delivered the rest of his veiled invitation, waiting for his reaction.
"I've realized lately, that being on your own isn't always the best path." They stood at the front of the ship and gazed out at the tall walls of Ba Sing Se.

Jet realized that voicing out his thoughts of getting Li to join the Freedom Fighters before Li had actually said yes was a bad move. Smellerbee was vaguely against the idea, and Longshot gave him a look that clearly said I'm staying on Smellerbee's good side.
"I can respect that," Jet replied, mind still stuck on Li's gorgeous eyes and fair skin.

Okay, so, Li turned him down. Jet resisted the urge to pout, because when he wanted something he usually got it. He saw Li go walk back to a disgruntled old man sipping cold tea, and an idea hit him. Yeah, he could woo Li into the team! Like how he did with Katara. Yeah, Jet was a genius. He wondered why no one else saw it before.
Thanks for reading! Please review :D other chapters coming later!
