There's A First For Everything

He ran through the sterile white hallway. In his mind he was screaming at his legs to run faster, she was hurt and he needed to be there. It was his fault she was here, his fault that she had left the house upset, that she grabbed the keys and drove off. If he wasn't such a fucking proud jack ass he would have just apologized, even though it was stupid. He knew better, he knew that she was fragile, especially now of all times. He was the one stupid enough to fight with her about paint colors, but in his defense, they wouldn't have known if the child was a boy or a girl, but that didn't matter now, what mattered was Mina, and if she was alright.

His path to the room was blocked by a tall dark haired man that he knew wouldn't let him pass without saying something. He stopped in front of the man, supporting himself on the wall next to him to catch his breath. "Kunzite," he said softly, "She's in critical condition….. and the child… it didn't make it." Kunzite felt his heart sink to the pit of his stomach as he doubled over in crippling sadness. He knew that it was true, hell he had known from the minute that Serena had called him about the accident, but hearing it was a totally different hell. He couldn't breathe, it was like his lungs stopped functioning, and the first breath he could take came out as a labored sob. He hadn't even realized that he had been crying until that moment.

Kunzite picked himself off of the floor and walked through the door to his wives hospital bed. She was staring blankly at the ceiling, she was exhausted, and the beeps and purrs of the machines showed her labored breathing. He walked up to her, his head held as high as he could force it, and tears trailing down his broad features. He knelt beside her and took her hand, and as she turned to look at him, she gave a labored smile, "I'm sorry love, I'm soo sorry, I lost her, or him, I'm such a stupid girl," she said, the pain in her eyes sending another crippling wave of sadness through Kunzites spine. He reached up and stroked his hand through her golden hair, "No Mina it's not your fault, it's mine," he said and forced the three words that he could never bring himself to say, those three god damn words that caused this, "I'm sorry Mina, I'm so sorry, it's all my fault."

Mina's eyes widened, after all she of all people knew that the great General Kunzite apologized to no man. A light smile crossed her lips, "I forgive you love," she said as she closed her eyes and relaxed into a dark and dreamless sleep. The only thing that let Kunzite know that his wife was still alive was the beeping of the machines. She forgave him, but he knew it would be long before she really could forgive him for all of this, after all, he couldn't even forgive himself. He let out a sigh, and let the sobbing take control. He never cried, never showed a sign of emotions, but there's a first for everything.
