He knocked on the door quietly before pushing the door open and standing in the doorway. He wasn't sure where they stood now, he wasn't sure he should be the one checking on him. "Either leave or come in, either way shut the door." Severide called from the bed throwing his hands over his eyes, trying to stop the pain the bright light caused.
"Wild night?" Mat asked moving the blankets and sitting on the foot of his bed. Kelly propped himself on his elbows and looked at him through narrowed eyes.
"Couldn't sleep, figured I'd try and get a few hours here." He said referring to the station and pulling the blanket back over his head. Hoping this would be a sign he really wanted to be left alone. No, he lied. He liked having Matt close to him, he just didn't him to know.
"Why not?" Really? Matt was really asking him this question? He gave him a look like are you serious? But matt seemed completely oblivious to it.
"Just go back to your team Casey.' He growled and felt bad as he saw Matt's face drop. He sighed and stood shaking his head.
'I thought maybe we'd moved past this, I can see I was wrong." He bit out icily and reached for his jacket but Kelly's hand caught his wrist. Crystal eyes met green blue and the breath caught in both of their throats.
"I'm sorry, I'm just tired and in a bad mood." Matt sat back down and gripped his shoulder affectionately.
"Wanna talk about it?" How was he supposed to explain that he was jealous of Hallie? She's been with Matt forever and obviously the two were in love. Andy was right, he should've told Matt before he went to Hallie. See Kelly's always had a soft spot for the younger Lieutenant, but andy knew what it really was. Knew that Kelly loved Matt and possibly vice versa.
"Not really, you'll be freaked out anyways." He mumbled and Matt scooted him over and laid down next to him. What was he doing? This most certainly was not the Matt he had known 5 minutes ago.
"Try me Kell.' He said smoothing said man's hair down. Kelly closed his eyes and took a chance wrapping his arms around Matt's waist and pulling him closer. To his surprise Matt didn't pull away but snuggled in closer.
"I…fuck, I can't tell you." He said and bit his lip looking away from his counterpart's intense stare.
"Why not?" He asked stroking the back of Kelly's neck lightly cuasing the older man to shiver slightly.
"You have Hallie, you're in love with Hallie." He said pressing their foreheads together but Matt shook his head no.
"Hallie and I have been over for awhile. Thing just weren't working out between us." He said and chuckled a little bit.
"Matt, if you don't stop I'm-" But he didn't have a chance to finish because Matt was softly kissing Kelly, he pulled away and looked at him.
"Can you tell me now?" He asked resting his head on a hand and smiling up at him.
"Jesus, I love you Matt." He said and kissed him again, letting it last a little longer this time. They both pulled away smiling like teenagers at each other.
"And I love you too Kelly." He said wrapping his hands around his waist and pulling him closer.
"Now, I really am tired so hush.' He said and snuggled his head into his love's shoulder letting his soft scent lull him to sleep. He felt a small kiss placed on his forehead and the bed shift as Matt got up. He didn't try to reach out this time though, he knew he would be back. He wasn't leaving for good.
