It was a bright and sunny day in Pallet Town. 'But when isn't it?' Nineteen-year old Ash Ketchum thought to himself while looking out his bedroom window. He grew up in Pallet Town and there rarely ever was any sort of bad weather. A flock of Pidgey and Pidgeotto were flying through the sky with the grace of a feather caught in the wind, Rattata were scampering across the fields, looking for food for the upcoming winter. Since staying home after his defeat in the final four of the Unova league conference two years ago, Ash has been getting more and more restless each day, seeing the same scenery every day. "I need something to occupy my time or eventually I'm going to snap." And almost on cue the video phone rang with its familiar tone, "RING RING RING, RING RING RING PHONE CALL PHONE CALL!" the Pidgey cried in its robotic voice. Ash sprinted down the stairs as fast as he could; almost face planting at the bottom, to answer the phone.
"Hello Ketchum residence, this is Ash." "Jeez Ash formal enough?" the familiar but different looking coordinator responded as she popped up on screen. She had brown, shoulder length hair that she kept down now under her familiar red bandana. Her eyes were a vibrant shade of cerulean blue which popped with her newly tanned skin.
"May! What are you calling me for?" Ash exclaimed.
"What? Can't I call one of my best friends to have a friendly chat?" May retorted sounding somewhat mad.
No, it's cool. I'm just shocked because I haven't heard from you in like two years and all of a sudden you call me, so I'm guessing there is a specific reason for it."
May just stared at Ash for a few seconds, surprised and slightly offended by his logic. "Well, there is a reason I called you. My dad was offered a position in the Elite Four in this newly established region called the Honoloh region and we have to move out there. There are contests out there that I want to participate in, but I don't want to travel this new region all by myself, so I figured I would ask you to see if you wanted to come along and challenge the gyms out there."
"Why didn't you just one of your coordinator friends, like Solidad or Drew to go with?" Ash questioned sounding almost insulted.
"Well you were the first person I thought of when asking someone out…ON A JOURNEY! NOT A DATE OR ANYTHING!" May yelled, her cheeks turning redder than her bandana.
"Yeah, I got what you meant." Ash said blushing also, although not nearly as much as May. "I guess it would be nice to get away from Pallet Town for a while. You can count me in May!" Ash exclaimed excitedly.
"Thanks Ash, it means a lot to me. I'll be by your house in a little while."
Ash looked confused. "Where are you right now May?"
"I'm at the Pokemon Center in Viridian City." She said meekly twiddling her fingers in a cute fashion.
"Oh, so I see how it is May. You knew I would say yes! Well maybe I don't want to go now." Ash intensely, back turned so that May couldn't see the huge grin on his face.
"Come on Ash! I'm sorry for jumping the gun a bit, but don't get angry with me for it!"
"I'm just kidding May. Can't take a joke?
"That wasn't funny!" May said rage behind her eyes.
"I'm sorry May, but I was only kidding. Besides, I was going to offer to pick you up and bring you here." Ash said.
"You drive? May questioned, almost not believing what she just heard.
"Yeah I have my own car and everything. Most guys my age do." Ash confirmed.
"I guess that makes sense. So I'll see you in ten or twenty minutes?" May asked.
"Yep, look for the yellow muscle car."
