Steven and Connie both wonder—what events led to the decision that they made? They both loved each other eternally, but what hardship did they felt when they made this decision? Steven knew Connie wasn't like him; Connie was not a gem—she was a normal human like everyone else on earth. Steven knew at one point, Connie can grow up, be distant and pass away while Steven can adjust his physical age and appearance unlike Connie.
When Connie finished college, she made the decision with Steven. They both didn't want to break their bonds together as they both loved each other. Life was unfair like that; loved ones can inevitably pass away as you yourself can grow old in sorrow. Both Steven and Connie didn't want that, and they did their decision.
They lived together for decades, having each other's back during fighting. With a sharp, pink, sword and a strong shield, they perfected an undefeatable combination. They poofed corrupted gems together, bubbling them, healing them. They glowed in the battlefield; they were the powerful duo. Together, both were amazing in the battlefield, able to withstand anything that gets in their way.
For the rest of the Crystal Gems, they were extremely supportive. All of them respected their decision; even they fought alongside them. Though, it was a surprising decision, they still accepted the duo. They loved them both equally, like they were their biological family. Even if Peridot and Lapis Lazuli weren't so fond of the thought of their decision, they learnt how to cope with it—and both Steven and Connie loved them both.
Then, a hundred years passed.
Steven and Connie both sat on the sand, watching the waves crash on shore. They stared at the sun as it was setting. Both were thinking as Garnet sat beside them, watching them stare at the sun. Then, Garnet started a conversation with a simple question.
"When are you going to unfuse?" She asked, and once she asked that, Steven and Connie—or Stevonnie touched the Rose Quartz gem on their belly button. They sighed, looking back at Garnet, "I know it is a wrong question to ask, but I, as a fusion, am wondering." Garnet, watched Stevonnie frown for a second.
"I know one day, I will unfuse," Stevonnie says, looking at the Rose Quartz gem, "But if I have the opportunity to stay like this forever, I will stay like this." Stevonnie smiled and stood up, feeling the wind breeze.
Garnet stood up beside Stevonnie and smiled at them, "Alright then. I'm looking forward to that."
And so, Garnet left the two alone. Stevonnie stared at the sun and started pondering about the future. They know that they want to keep this form forever, until the end of time. Both love Stevonnie really much, though, they know they must let go one day. Steven needs to let Connie go one day. Even with all these dreadful thoughts, they knew that all they can hope for is the future and the future events that they will spend their time on together.
And they hope that they can spend the rest of time in each other's grasp, caring for each other, being fused together, and most definitely, loving each other.
