iPod Shuffle Challenge Response
Disclaimer: Tamora Pierce owns the characters and settings. I just play around in her world. The bands in () own the songs that inspired these drabbles.
Rules:
1. Pick a character, pairing, or fandom you like.
2. Turn on your music player and put it on random/shuffle.
3. Write a ficlet related to each song that plays. You only have the time frame of the song to finish the drabble; you start when the song starts, and stop when it's over. No lingering afterwards!
4. Do ten of these, and then post them.
1. Here It Goes Again (OK Go)
"Are you ready Kel?" Owen asked. She mounted Peachblossom and waited patiently at the end of the jousting field.
"Of course." She said, sure of herself.
"You know Raoul is going to kill you," he told her, concerned with her lack of concern.
"I know, I'll keep going until I kill him," she laughed. The flag dropped, and Kel whispered "Charge," into Peachblossom's ear.
Here we go again, Owen thought, shaking his head.
2. I Don't Want to Miss a Thing (Aerosmith)
Numair sat at the desk in their bedroom, knowing that he really should be writing that paper, or reading that ancient book of magic, but for the first time in is life he found that he couldn't. He stared at the empty bed, picturing Daine, sleeping. He even missed the animals that had come to join them in the night.
She's only gone for a week, maybe two, he told himself, but yet I miss her so much. You'd think by now that I would be used to her being gone, but I guess I never will.
3. Sweet Home Alabama (Lyrd Syndard)
Alanna hadn't been to Trebond in years. She had stopped thinking of herself as Alanna of Trebond since she married George. It was just another title, one that she didn't actually inherit. Thom was dead. Her father was dead. The only Trebond family she had left was Coram and Maude. Still, she still felt like she belonged here.
Now, standing in front of the castle where she grew up she was nostalgic She walked the grounds of the palace, remembering that this was the place where she learned to ice skate (she cringed), seeing the targets where she shot her first bow.
There was a festival of some kind going on, and Alanna heard a northern pheasant dance that she hadn't danced to since she was ten, before she had left for her page training.
"Sweet home Trebond, where the lakes are so blue…," she sang
4. Hey There Delilah (Plain White T's)
Alanna,
The Copper Isles are like nothing I have ever seen before. I'm going to take a few weeks more then expected to establish some contacts here.
The good news is that I've found her. The bad news is that she isn't coming back (more on that later.)
I hope this letter finds you well and before I do. Every night we are away I dream of you. I can't believe that we are so away. I can promise you that in two more weeks I'm never going to leave Tortall again without you.
This thief loves you with all his crooked heart,
George
5. Runnin' With the Devil (Van Halen)
"Daine!" Numair called towards his young student. "What do you think you were doing?"
Daine laughed. "There were some cougars. I wanted to see what being a cougar is like. I ran with them."
"It sounded like they weren't that friendly to you." Numair said. That is an exgaggerated. She nearly caused me a heart attack.
6. The Point of No Return (The Phantom of the Opera)
"Jon," Alanna started. "I'm not sure if last night was… right."
Jonathan turned around to look at his squire. Typical Alanna, already dressed by gods-know-what-hour and probably has already practiced with her sword too.
"Did you think it was right?" Jon asked. Maybe he should have waited. She was still young. But it would have happened someday. He knew it. It was their destiny to be together.
"Yes, but I don't know if it is what I want." Alanna sat down on one of his chairs and put her feet up.
"Is it what you want? It seems to me to be a yes or no question." It was too early to be having this discussion.
"Yes."
"Good then. I can go back to bed." Jon laid back down.
"You have to get up for breakfast. I swear knighthood is making you lazy." Alanna got up and threw some of his clothes at him.
"Fine." He didn't get up.
"Jon," Alanna started again. "If I would have said no would you be still my friend?"
"Of course." He turned to look her in the eye. "I think we've past the point of no return for that question a very long time ago."
7. I want to hold your hand (The Beatles)
"Please?" Daine whispered in Numair's ear.
"What will people think?" he asked nervously.
"No matter what they'll talk," Daine reassured him.
"You're right." So, they two announced their relationship for the first time to the public by Numair holding Daine's hand as they ascended down the staircase.
8. The Devil Went Down to Georgia (Charlie Daniel's Band)
"I bet I can beat you in the sword." Kel announced to Alanna one day.
"Really? How much?"
Kel thought. Since their mission past enemy lines, she had had quite a large purse, but she didn't know how long it would last.
"A gold noble," she finally answered.
"Lass, if you can beat me, than you can be Champion." Alanna said. She hadn't been beat since she was a squire.
"You're on."
When the bout was ended Kel pulled the noble out of her purse.
"You're pretty good." Alanna said.
9. Revolution (the Beatles)
"It is not a rebellion I am proposing," Duke Rodger told his listen crowd. "It is a revolution."
"Show us the plan," Alex said cautiously.
"It going to be alright," Duke Rodger smiled assuringly.
10. Footloose (Kenny Loggins)
"Dance with me Alanna," George pulled his fiancée across the floor.
"I don't dance." She declared seriously.
"You know how to," he teased.
"Please? They are celebrating me becoming a Baron, and I would like to show off my future Baroness." She couldn't help it. Normally dancing would be an absolute no, but here, in George's horrible teasing arms, she felt like being footloose and fancy free. No longer did she have to dance with the various court ladies, but yet, she was not restricted by the formalized etiquette that was normal followed for an unwed woman to dance with a man. "See it's fun," George pointed out.
