"Nikara! Ashika! Come down here for a sec!"
A groan was heard from under the covers of both twin mats.
"But it's the weekend! We're supposed to sleep in today!"
"Hurry up!" their mother called, halfway up the stairs.
Another groan sounded from the beds. One of the covers was thrown back to reveal a young girl with short brown hair. Just as quick, the other's was thrown back as well to show an identical copy but with blond locks.
"OK-AA!" they said in unison, stressing the word, "It's FREEZING!" The two made a few feeble attempts to grab the covers from their mother's raised hands before shrugging and curling up to keep warm. Their mother let out a long sigh.
"You don't know what day it is, do you?" The twins froze. "It's very important…" she hinted. They each shot up and sat frozen in place. "It involves the both of you…" she smiled as recognition flashed across their deep brown eyes as they caught the hint. The twins leaned into a fox-like crouch. "And it involves a certain changing number…" Like a flash of lightning, the two girls sprung of their mats with fox-like movements and landed in a crouch outside the door, then bolted down the stairs taking them four at a time to land in that same crouch at the bottom of the stairs, only to disappear from her view a they bolted around the corner and into the kitchen where their father was waiting.
"Okaa-san! Hurry up!" Two voices sounded from down the downstairs kitchen. She let out a laugh. "I'm coming!" Their growing up so fast, my Nikara and Ashika. Eight already, my little twins.
"Present! Present! Present!" The twins looked to their father.
"Hehehe alright! Alright!" He laughed at their antics. As their mother entered the room, he withdrew two identical boxes from behind him. As soon as they were in sight, they were whisked from his grasp and in the twins' arms. They quickly unwrapped the gifts to reveal two identical sweaters. The fabric was a beautiful blue, symbolizing the Water Territory.
Their deep brown eyes shone with delight as they pulled the sweaters on. With lightning speed, they were out the door and across the halls to show their grandparents. Their parents chuckled as they watched their only children dance with glee as they showed off their new gifts.
"I think they're gonna love what Mom and Dad have for them." Their father whispered to his wife, referring to his parents. Just as the words left his lips, the twins froze and stared expectantly at their grandparents.
"It's amazing that they can hear us whispering from hear. No one else in Water can." The twins flashed two big grins at their mother.
"Okaa-san! Otou-san! Look what we got!" They rounded the corner and came to a swift stop. "New socks for winter!" The color of the socks matched perfectly with their new sweaters. Their parents smiled as their two young girls ran through the halls and stopped at their uncle and aunt's door.
