It had been hard, there was no way it could have been easy though and she should have known that. How could I have thought it would have been so easy? Rey chastised herself and moved to the top of the ram ensuring the remaining members of the resistance got onto the Falcon safely. Before she had left to find Luke, there were always so many people bustling around the base. Now the few who had managed to survive were war-torn and downtrodden. As the last person made their way into the ship, the force began to shift around as the noise of everyone further into the ship died away. It made her head spin as she realized what was coming.

Kylo Ren was now the Supreme Leader of the First Order, he should have felt ecstatic with this newfound power he had over the entire operation. But he did not. All he could feel was cold that seemed to spread from his core to the rest of his body. It was then, he realized, he had made his way inside the now abandoned base and thinking back to the Supremacy he fell on his knees. He had been rejected, again. Someone had pushed him away, like his mother and father, his uncle and now Rey. She was the one person he thought would understand him, though in the end she left him alone. He hated to admit it – but it hurt him. Then the pull of the force came, the one he was getting familiar with though he knew he should not. As he looked up from the ground where he was kneeling he saw the scavenger. Just her – but that was all he needed to see. Kylo felt taunted by the image of the one person he thought he could rule the galaxy with. No Jedi, no Sith – just him and her.

Rey had to talk to him one more time before she left. Who would know if their bond would surface again? The next time they meet could be in battle, and she did not want to talk to him that way. After telling Chewbacca to wait for her she did not wait for a reply and ran down the ramp of the ship. Finn's voice cried out "Rey! Where are you going?" though it was too late for him to go after her. This was not a choice anymore, it was something she had to do. Finally reaching an entrance to the abandoned base, she ran inside and glanced around. Rey could hear Stormtroopers elsewhere in the tunnels, probably looking for remaining resistance members. Channeling the force, she used it to guide her to him – to Ben. Stopping as soon as she entered the large room he was in, she saw him staring out the viewport. He immediately sensed her presence and turned around and she could see wet streaks on his face from where he had been crying. He was surprised to see her in front of him though he tried not to show it. Rey quickly approached him and wrapped her arms around his torso, burying her face into his chest.

"Come home Ben." She could feel him freeze up in her embrace and for a fleeting moment was terrified he would push her away. Then he softened and tentatively wrapped his arms around her. He slowly dropped his head close to her ear and whispered, "You know I can't." His tears then became her own and her voice broke as she said, "please." They both know that they cannot stay like this, but for now he feels a little warmer.

AN: This is my first attempt at a fanfic so I hope you guys enjoyed this! It was inspired by a post on twitter for an alternate ending to tlj.
