Ever since he was young, he had always wanted to follow in his father's footsteps. He came from five generations of honor, duty and following orders. Today he was the sixth. He looked out the window, watching his three younger brothers play. He hated leaving them - they were so young but somehow they understood what he was about to do. He turned around, taking one last look of himself in the mirror as he picked up his dog tags and putting them on.
He grabbed his things as he took one last look of his room before heading downstairs. The moment he entered the living room, his stepfather stood up, followed by his mother and his fiancé. He could feel they were trying not to cry. The front door opened and he saw his three younger brothers running straight to him. He hugged them and told them that they always could write to him. He assured them that he'd be thinking about them.
Then he walked towards his stepfather, who being in the United States Air force knew how he felt leaving his family. His old man pulled him into a hug and told him to be careful.
Next was his fiancé. They had never got married and now here he was telling her good bye.
The last person he told good bye to was his mother. She told him that he'd better write to let them. He told her that he would and that he loved her.
He took one last look at his family, wondering if he'd see them again.
Part of him didn't want to go, but he was given orders to report to base for deployment to Afghanistan.
He came from five generations of duty, honor and following orders and he wasn't going to break those commands.
