Justin stared at the stockings that adorned the wall in the Hufflepuff common room. By the friends he had in Ravenclaw and Gryffindor, he knew their houses didn't do stockings, and he guessed that Slytherin didn't, either. It was a special Hufflepuff tradition.
He looked at the card that was held in his hand. Instead of the normal red or green envelop, it was enclosed in a teal envelop, her favorite color.
Justin discretely looked around and thankfully the common room was nearly empty. The couple of stragglers were seventh years, and they weren't likely to care about fifth years.
He raced to the fifth year stockings and quickly dropped the beloved envelope in a very specific stocking. He stepped away, breathing easier. Everything was now in place. He hoped his Christmas wish would come true. He hoped...
When he woke up Christmas day, he made his way to the common room, still in his pajamas. The couple of Hufflepuffs that had stayed were at the stockings, eager to see what presents they received. She was there, too.
Justin did his best to not look at her. She was going through all of the cards she received, and he saw his in the pile, unopened.
Justin got his own stocking, and sitting in a plush yellow chair, he emptied it. He saw chocolates and little toys, and lots of cards. Standard stuff.
He kept his gaze down, resolutely not looking at her, afraid of her reaction. When he was tapped on the shoulder, he hesitantly looked up. She was standing in front of him, bright eyed with pink cheeks. She never looked prettier to him. "Yeah?"
"Justin, that was the sweetest thing anyone has ever written to me in a card. Did you mean it?"
"Of course."
"Then, I'd love to go out with you."
Justin jumped up. "Really. I can't wait. You won't regret it, Susan. I promise."
