Gendimagus

Part One

It had taken months of preparation, but he was finally ready.

It had always galled him that the Marauders had been able to perform such complex Transfiguration magic when he had always been barely able to transform a mouse into a pencil. He glorified in beating them, along with the rest of the school in all other magical subjects (particularly potions, but that goes without saying), but he always struggled in Minerva's class.

However, not one to give up, he studied and practiced Transfiguration religiously. He could now confidently say his skill level was up there with Professor McGonagall, a renowned genius in her field.

Only one thing held him back from being a true Transfiguration master: the Animagus transformation.

After studying all there was to know about other transformations, he finally felt ready to try this most difficult and dangerous bit of magic in the Transfiguration field.

Not a complete idiot, he went to Minerva for advice. He certainly didn't want to trap himself as an animal or become half human permanently. Once she realized she could not sway him from his decision, she was remarkably helpful, providing him with tips and hints and telling him of her own first transformation.

And now, he was finally ready.

He chose to perform the transformation in the dungeons. They were quite large so they should be able to accommodate any size animal he turned into and they were cut off from the rest of the school so he would be spared any interruptions from wandering students. (Students tended to avoid the dungeons like the plague. He was quite proud of that.)

He knelt on the floor and took a deep breath, preparing himself. He was completely nude, not yet ready to try the transformation on his clothes so soon. He began, closing his eyes, nearly beside himself with glee as he felt the magic of the transformation rush through him. What would he be? A snake? A cat? A dragon?

His body now felt different. He opened his eyes and looked down.

Seconds later a woman's dulcet tones could be heard echoing through the dungeons, sounding remarkably unhappy.

"Oh, bloody hell."
