"Liv!" came an urgent cry from the kitchen.
Olivia went running. "What's wrong, Alex?"
The blonde's face was even paler than usual as she pointed to something on the kitchen floor. "Olivia, what is that?"
Olivia gave Alex her most innocent smile. "A rat."
"I can see that," replied Alex, crossing her arms. "And what is a rat doing in my kitchen?"
"Don't you mean our kitchen?"
"No, I mean my kitchen. You're banned from this kitchen as long as I don't want this house set on fire. Now why is this rat in my kitchen?"
Olivia feigned innocence once again. "I don't know."
"Well, does it look like it belongs here?"
Olivia thought about it. She really wanted to say yes, but she knew she really shouldn't. So she answered, "No."
"So what do you think we should do with this unwelcome intruder?"
Olivia clasped her hands behind her back. "I don't know."
"I think that if you want dinner, you should exterminate it."
Olivia gave Alex her best puppy dog eyes. "That's cruelty to animals!"
"That thing isn't an animal. It's a rodent. It's a pest."
"It's somebody's baby," whined Olivia.
"You're actually advocating for this little tyrant?" Alex sounded as if she couldn't believe her ears.
"I don't want to kill it!"
"Fine. Then you make dinner," snapped Alex before sauntering out of the kitchen. "And don't touch the microwave, the oven, the stove, or any other potentially destructive kitchen appliances."
Olivia took out a box of chocolate chip cookies and smiled to herself as she put a few on a plate and started to eat, making a mental note to return Dickie's rat to Elliot tomorrow, with gratitude.
