"What is that" Naru asked coming into the office.

I was on the floor playing with a half-size husky.

"It's Shiki" I said and the dog came toward me.

"What did you just call it" Lin asked in shock.

"Well on my way to work a group of boys knocked me over and stole my bag. I yelled for help but no one was around. Then this dog came out of nowhere and blocked them from leaving. They dropped my bag and ran. Then the dog brought it to me. And since its pure white, came out of nowhere and defended me, it reminded me of Lin's shiki" I explained.

"Take it to the pound" Naru said sternly.

"What" I exclaimed as Monk walked in.

"Hey I didn't know you had a mascot now" Monk said petting Shiki.

"It's not a mascot and why are you here" Naru said with growing irritation.

"My band just got a record deal with this one company. But they had to stop our recording, because it was never our music that came on the tapes. So I made a deal that if we can get rid of whatever it is that is messing with the tape then we keep recording."

"Are you sure it's nor a technical problem." Naru asked.

"They checked. All the equipment was set up right"

"Alright. Lin and I will go start setting up a base. Monk take Mai and that … thing to the pound" Naru said leaving.

When we got to the studio, Naru was shocked to see Shiki on a leash.

"I told you to take it to the pound not buy it a collar" he said frustrated.

"Sorry Naru. It's my dog now" Monk shrugged.

"Just set up the equipment" Naru said defeated, "Mai, you're in charge of the dog. Keep it out of the way"

"Yes sir" I saluted.

We set up base on the first floor; the room we were investigating was on the third. The stairs were covered in wires, except for a small walk way on the side.

"When's everyone else coming I asked.

"Except for John, they aren't coming" Naru said so coldly in made me flinch.

"Why"

"Because I don't think we'll need them"

Wow, just the five of us.

The next day Naru was not impressed to see we still had Shiki with us.

Monk's band came to show us how the audio changed.

"Mai, go replace the tape in the camera" Naru said to me, "and take that dog with you"

Shiki and I scaled the steps two at a time. I replaced the tapes and was about to leave, when the door slammed shut. It wouldn't open. Shiki started growling ad barking. When I turned around I saw a spirit glaring at Shiki. Shiki kept backing up and pushing me to the door. Never turning from the spirit.

The spirit tried to advance on us but Shiki wouldn't let it. It got closer and Shiki actually attacked it.

I heard footsteps outside and the door was thrown open. Lin gave a long whistle. The dog jumped out of the way as a stream of white light hit the spirit. Lin grabbed my wrist as I called for Shiki to follow.

John showed up the next morning. Naru told him to exorcize the room. Shiki refused to come with me when John started. Monk stayed with her at base.

"I'm fairly certain it worked" John said after.

"Monk, we need you to do a sound check to be sure" Naru said.

It turned out everything was fine. One thing that still puzzled me was how Shiki attacked the spirit.

"Hey Mai" Monk called, "I can't take care of Shiki so do you want her"

I was so happy. I knelt down by the dog and asked, "how about it. Do you want to come home with me?"

Shiki sat there and put a paw on my shoulder. She seemed so happy. Then she barked and dissolved.

I stared up at Monk in shock. Even Lin, Naru and John had seen it.

Shiki was a spirit? She saved my life.

Shiki the spirit dog is my character.
