Labyrinth
A pretty girl wandered a maze,
And wondered which path to choose.
She was glad she had youth, fitness and health.
Not to mention comfortable shoes.
She happened upon a miniature man,
Peeing steady into a pond.
She avoided him with all due haste,
Of urination she wasn't too fond.
Before her stood a mighty gate,
Towering eight feet from the ground.
"I'd love to go through," she quickly said,
"But I'd rather just go around."
She quickly spotted a leaning tree,
And called her feet to come on.
Using the branches she clambered the wall,
And then she began to run.
Past the worm, the fieries and even an owl,
Past the grumbling collection of heads.
Past a hanging, roaring, orange clad beast,
She chose the wall instead.
With this method the castle was easily reached,
As she looked on with great expectation.
The army was immobile; she gave them no time,
And so entered with no confrontation.
"Give me the child," her sultry voice rang,
As she caught Jareth mounting his throne.
"Through hardships unnumbered I have fought here,
"Now I just want to go home."
"Sarah," he sighed, clutching the babe,
As he played the bold and beautiful thief.
"Love me, fear me, do as I say,"
She thought she felt a flutter of grief.
"I'm sorry," she said, though this wasn't true,
And she mimicked his tone of regret.
"I am sure you are nice and probably great,"
"But I'm just not right for you yet."
He didn't get it, that she could see,
So explained further as she grew bold,
"Being rich and powerful, well that's a plus,
"But I'm afraid you are just far too old."
Do you want me to carve you up walking sticks?
Or guide you when you cannot see?
Do you want me to pre-chew all your food?
That life's just not for me.
So clutching her brother she twirled the ball,
And watched for the life that would follow.
Toby was safe at least, far from the king,
(Unless he annoyed her tomorrow).
