A/N: I was having trouble falling asleep last night, and this kind of came to me. This is my first one-shot, so sorry if it's sucky...
The Birthday
It was early summer. Crickets were chirping, the air was warm, stars twinkled, and the moon shone brightly.
Harry stood up and observed the room. His flat was a mess. He would have to clean it tomorrow. Tonight, he had something important to do. Going back to his room, Harry grabbed a small box with a satin bow tied around it, and his broomstick. Checking his watch, he realized that already it was 10 o'clock. Only two hours left.
When Harry got outside, he tucked the box into his robe pocket and mounted his broom, taking off into the nighttime sky. He flew for about twenty minutes, then stopped, hovering in midair. Before him was a large house. It had had several levels added to it and leaned over to the side so far, it had to be held up by magic.
Harry's gaze fell on a second floor window. Both things he had hoped for were there. The window sat wide open, and light flooded out of it, pouring onto the yard below. Silently, Harry flew over to the window and stood on the sill. Broom in hand, he jumped down into the room.
A girl with fiery red hair sat at a desk in the corner of the room. Startled, she whipped around at the sound of Harry coming in, her brown eyes wide. When she saw Harry, her face broke into a wide smile. She jumped up and ran over to him, throwing her arms around him. Harry hugged her tightly.
"You're here," she whispered.
"Yeah, I am," Harry agreed. "Happy birthday, Ginny."
He let go of Ginny and reached into his robe pocket. He extracted the box and handed it to Ginny. Gently untying the ribbon, she pulled the lid off the box. Inside was a gold locket with an emerald green flower engraved on the front. It was attached to a thin gold chain.
"Thank you," Ginny said, staring at the locket. She looked up at Harry and said, "It's the same color as your eyes." She was referring to the flower. Harry had inherited his mother's bright, emerald green eyes.
"Here," Harry said, taking the locket from her. Brushing Ginny's hair out of the way, he put the necklace around her neck. When it was secure, Ginny glanced down at it, playing with it. She turned to face Harry. For a second, they stared at each other. Then, Ginny wrapped her arms around him, and kissed him.
When they broke apart, Ginny rested her head on Harry's chest. Harry held her close, never wanting to let go. "I love you, Harry," she whispered, closing her eyes.
"I love you, too, Ginny," Harry said. He felt content. This is where he belonged, with Ginny.
A/N: Like I said, my first one-shot. Please review!
