A/N: I just became a Star Trek fan a few months ago, and this poem
expresses some feelings I had one evening. Yes, my hometown
really is like that.
You see before you a field of grapevines,
abandoned by humans,
standing boldly against the sprawl that surrounds them.
How much longer?
It can't be long now; the plans are already in place.
Yes, I too wish they didn't have to be torn out.
They're part of the history of this place.
This is my home, and they are what my home has in common with yours.
You and I are very much alike.
I too think of grapevines when I think of home.
I too love books, music, and Earl Grey tea.
I too believe in preserving the past and in cooperation among races.
Look! The stars are coming out.
Their faraway light calls to me.
A deep hope and desire is within me.
Will the final frontier ever open up to this world?
I hope so.
I feel like a prisoner on my own planet.
You have a freedom that I dream of.
You give me great joy just by being who you are.
I am happy because I have you in my life.
Disclaimers: The grapevines (most of them, anyway) belong to some construction company. J.L.P. belongs to Paramount Pictures. No money is being made off this; I write because it's fun. :-)
