An abrupt ithump/i stirred Kaipo from his sleep. He sat up and looked over at Kolie, who was snoring lightly, deep in slumber; evidently the loud noise didn't disturb her.
Reassured that Kolie was still asleep, Kaipo stepped away from the warmth of the bed and peered out the window. The back yard was empty; only a lone wheelbarrow sat under the palm nearest the house. Of what Kaipo could see from the window, the front yard was empty as well.
He shrugged, figuring it was probably just the wind making a coconut fall out of a tree and hitting the roof. Since he was up anyway, he decided he would go downstairs to get a glass of Coke.
Kaipo opened the door to the dishwasher, pulling out a clean glass. He walked over to the refrigerator, opening the door to the seemingly blinding light. He grabbed the two-liter soda bottle and poured it into the glass. He began to take a swallow of the drink, then slowly put the glass down. He had seen the reflection of some enormous thing on the side of the toaster. He stood silently, listening for any sudden sound.
Kaipo then turned around, but his vision began to blur. His eyes stung, as if someone had sprayed them with mace. He rubbed at them furiously, trying to open them now again to see what was going on, but failed; it only stung worse when the air hit them.
He cried out for help, but was only silenced by a gargantuan hand picking him up from the floor.
"You're coming with me, you little burden," said Gantu from the darkness. Kaipo looked up to see his satanic blue eyes staring down evilly upon him. Before he could get a word out edge-wise, everything went black.
(A/N: Sorry it's so short! I got a minor case of writer's block at the moment...my mind is kind of busy anyway...I have a lot to worry about...The title sucks, I know, but I'll think of a better one later.)
